Possibly the best-known Madonna mash-up is the work of Mark Vidler of Go Home Productions. He put together a mash-up of Madonna's Ray Of Light with the Sex Pistols' Pretty Vacant and titled it Ray Of Gob.

Madonna is the most successful dance artist in music history; she has 33 #1 singles on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Singles Chart, more than twice the number of her nearest rival Janet Jackson. Madonna also has 25 #1 singles on Billboard's Hot Dance Single Sales Chart, more than three times the number of her nearest rivals Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, and Notorious B.I.G.

as far as Elvis.....

recorded 104 singles that hit the Top 40 of the Billboard pop chart.

had 38 Top 10 Billboard hits. This total is currently unchallenged; the closest competitor, Madonna, has 35. (The Beatles had 34 Top 10 hits during their career.)

From 1956 to 1962 Elvis set the record with 24 consecutive top 5 hit singles
Since 1962, the closest anyone has come to matching this was Madonna in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with 19 consecutive top 5 hits.

Madonna has 6 No. 2 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart, the most for a female artist, tying her with Elvis Presley for the record.

Ok then, i knew elvis was ahead of Madonna with something.

no RnB... everythin is so RnB it would be refreshing to hear a hit without that influence.

It looks like Madonna is serious when she said it would be a "dance album".She doesn't want any ballads to interrupt the flow. Her hardcore fans (who mostly listen to dance/club music anyway) are gonna love this.

I agree.I hope she doesn't go the R&B route. There is very little innovation and creativity in today's R&B.

the opening to RIT was effectively creepy and provocative.I loved it lol

It was an excellent opener. The bit where she says the passage "Then, I saw a new heaven and a new earth And I heard a great voice from the throne saying:
"Behold the dwelling of God is with men He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people And God himself will be with them He will wipe away every tear from their eyes And death shall be no more
Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore
For these things will have passed away" - I found this really moving, particularly with those beautiful dramatic synth strings in the background. I hope a re-invention mix of this song surfaces.

She wont better this opener IMO. Those amazing Steven Klein images, and the anticipation it created and then the "behold - I am coming soon" bit, it was all so ridiculously over the top, i loved it.

Hold on....Elvis dance chart record?

I never knew any of those singles came out when the dance chart did? I'm pretty sure Madonna has a lock on most charting dance singles, with Janet behind (by a dozen or better) singles. Madonna rules the dance charts. Maybe you're talking about the pop charts, where she didn't do well with this album at all.

Yep, Elvis holds the top dance chart record with 35 #1s if i'm not mistaken.
Madonna has 33

Dance singles....I always read (or thought I read) that Madonna led that chart by a wide margin. She'll surely own that record soon. Now matter what, the dance/gay community will always embrace Madonna. unless she makes some Anita Bryant type remarks (and yes, we all know about the Donna Summer rumour although she still lives and breathes on the dance charts when she releases something lately).

I'm shocked Madonna didn't at least get closer to breaking the top ten singles record with her latest....only one top ten single and that was "Die Another Day", unoffically the first AL single. Hopefully Madonna's new sound and the emergence of the digital singles chart will help Madonna break that record. If she can outdo Elvis, a great amount of criticism (as far as how popular she is) should disappear forever. Not that it matters...but it matters!

I don't see Madonna chasing that trend. I think after the "Into the Groove" remix, that ship as sailed, along with the one where she redoes her hits.

Full on dance music album with no ballads, good (although the ballads were very strong on AL). However...Mirwais....not so much. Three albums....really...did she hear AL?

Mirwais is not the main producer. On her official site, she confirms that she is working with producers she has never worked with before, but wouldn't say who they are.

Well in that interview they've been showing, Mirwais was the first name she mentioned. She also mentioned Stuart Price and Bloodshy. So I'm not sure what to expect really. A full on dance record will be fun, but I'm sure I'll miss the ballads. Those are usually my favorites.

From most sources ii've read it is believed that both mirwais and bloodhy only have one song each on the album, and the rest is produced by Stuart Price.

As much as I love her ballads,I can do without them this time.I like the idea of an entirely uptempo dance album.Ballads tend to slow things down a bit,and 'American Life' was filled with songs that are slow.I think she wants to kick some ass this time around lol

Well, he's a dj so i'm not sure.

He mixed the Thin white duck mix of "hollywood" which was bigger than the original.

He was also the one who played the keyboards on her last 2 tours.

Stuart Price is actually a really talented English DJ / producer. He's been in a few groups and worked under a few names. Jacques Lu Cont (who does the thin white duke remixes - he's done many for the likes of gwen Stefani, The Killers, Britney Spears, and many others), hes also one third of the group Zoot Woman who are quite cool. His best work IMO was as Les Rythmes Digitales, the album is called Darkdancer, and if Maddys next record sounds anything like this it will be a killer. The track Jacques Your Body was used in the Citroen adverts recently with the car that dances. Other tracks on this album worthy of a mention are Take A Little Time and Whats that Sound.

If you think of the Thin White Duke re-mix of Hollywood, that is definitely typical of his sound. Its 80's retro sounding, with a modern edge, but definitely sounds quite different to Mirwais.

I read that he studied music classically, and never went to clubs until he started DJ-ing in them. He is quite innovative and ive heard his style range perhaps more so than Mirwais' has. I think it'll be a really excellent collaboration between them, although i do hope there are a couple of ballads on there. My hope is for an album of really uplifting dancefloor tracks, not like a lot of the trash that you hear passed of as dance music now, but more retro and late 80's sounding.

The thing i'm worried about is that dance music is kinda not as popular at this point in time. Unless Madonna makes it popular again with this next album, do you feel this album will be overlooked?

Of course she will get a whole bunch of #1 dance singles as usual, but how would you predict it would do on the Hot 100 or whatever.
