Z CULT FAVORITE/Bootsy Collins/The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away Inspired by OnionJuice's question ; had anyone heard of Bootsy's 'Excon of Love" song, it made me want to give it up to not only that song, but to one of my favorite Bootsy albums, "The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away." Released in 82, hardly nobody ever mentions this album. It's truly underrated, I think. Bootsy throws down on this album. Cuts like "Shine - O - Myte (rag popping)", "Landshark", "Countracula", "Play on Playboy" and of course, my favorite of the lot, "Excon of Love". These tracks are HEAVY on the riffs and Bootsy's drumming is hella deep in the pocket. There is MUCH bass slangin' and Bootsy does his Hendrix voice "raps" a lot more on this album than most of his other albums. If ya'll have this album, give it another listen. But from memory, whatcha think of it? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

His last Warner Bros. album.... Very underrated indeed!!! "Landshark" is the Jam!!!!! (The Catfish is playing that funky riff!!! And Bootsy's bass!!! ahhhhh!!!) "So Nice You Name Him Twice"!!! ( who's that!!! Bootsy!! Bootsy!!!) This song is the reason why they call Maceo "The Teacher" "What's W-R-O-N-G Radio" is another Jam!!!! Funk at its best!!!! [Edited 6/2/05 17:02pm]

You picked a good one Black. Not a lot of funkateers give up the love for this one. Bootsy's drum skills are tight on this one. "Landshark" is the jam!

This disc absolutely kicks ass! Some of his albums have better songs but none have as many jams as this one. I don't know if there has ever been a stronger album by anyone that resulted in the artist being dropped by their label! They did almost nothing to promote it and really dropped the ball on it when Countracula was remixed into Body Slam. They should have reconfigured the album with Body Slam and marketed the hell out of it. It did not help that Bootsy was still having substance/psychological issues at the time that reduced him to a cameo appearance in the P-Funk All-Stars show. It was around this time I first met Bootsy in person. I spent some time club-hopping with him and going out on a boat in Marina Del Rey, Calif., with his manager and my girlfriend. He was completely cool and fairly low-key. If you've got funk, you've got style.

Damn!!! I had that 45 & it got lost in one of my many moves. I have the album, but the vocal cut isn't half as fonkay as the instrumental!!!
