Holy Moley! New Bjork album! :o from www.bjork.com:
Details of the Drawing Restraint 9, are emerging. We can reveal: • Drawing Restraint 9, by Matthew Barney to be premiered in Kanazawa, Japan on July 1st. • Drawing Restraint 9, a soundtrack by Björk, will be released in late July. • Björk has written a suite of haunting music for the sho, one of the oldest instruments in Japanese culture with seventeen reeds and fifteen distinct pipes. It is performed by Mayumi Miayata, one of the world’s foremost sho players. Björk also worked with scholars of the Noh theatre to produce new musical settings, incorporating the low, growling vocal techniques of traditional Japanese court entertainment. • As a counterpoint to the ancient, Björk’s collaborations with her close circle of electronic producers continues – Mark Bell of LFO, Valgeir Sigurdsson, Akira Rabelais and Leila. • Tracklisting for the album is as follows: 1. giftwrapping 2. petrolatum 3. pearl 4. bath 5. hunter vessel 6. shimenawa 7. storm 8. holographic entrypoint 9. ambergris march 10. field inversion 11. antarctic return more to follow.

SO exciting ~ what a perfect addition to a wonderful summer. This sounds like a complex and intriguing project. It appears that Bjork has embraced the challenge in her wonderous and creative style. I absolutely cannot wait! Thank you for the call and the post Nathan!!!! Now let's hope we don't have a conflict with the Dead Can Dance show in Chicago. I wonder whether she and her husband will present a unique musical/art showing? David Sylvian has done this with great success. Whatever ~where ever ~ I am THERE!

Me too. She's one of a very small number of artists that I'd travel just about anywhere to see.

I hope it's better than Medulla, as much I loved it and blew me away when I heard it, I never get the urge to play it. hopefully this album is musical comeback. p.s I just heard Roisin Murphy's album "RUBY BLUE" and seems like she's picking up where Bjork left off

I have a feeling this one's gonna even less accessible than Medulla.

it does sound very interesting though. and it's great that it will be released so soon. i hate hearing about these kind of projects and have to wait more than 8 months before they are released. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

not sure i'm thrilled about this. but i'm sure it'll be very good in its own way whether it's in a way that makes me want to listen to it will have to be determined. but i look forward to hearing it "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

I'm equally if not more excited about a new Matthew Barney work. Is it a film, or what? I saw the entire Cremaster Cycle and am a fan of that wierd stuff.

i'm excited to see a new matthew barney project, too. i was lucky enough to see the retrospective at the guggenheim a couple years back, and i drooled over all five cremaster installments when the films came to chicago. i think this collaboration with bjork is gonna be at the very least VERY interesting.

I think people will look back at this stage of Bjork's career as akin to Bowie's Berlin era - difficult, uncompromising, and just plain insane. I'm sure she'll lose some fans along the way, but that won't matter once she reigns it in again. Let's just hope she doesn't go all "Let's Dance" on us after she gets this weirdness out of her system. I'll take weird over predictable any day. [Edited 6/8/05 11:29am]

Why not? Too challenging? Too obscure? i'm sure it will be very interesting, and quite impressive. but, like Medulla, perhaps not something that I ever have a desire to listen to. know what i mean? not a put-down of the work, just not necessarily something i have much interest in. we'll see. nice to see that instruments aren't as over as we were led to believe, though "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

I listen to "Medulla" regularly and I love it. I still think that
"Vespertine" is her most beautiful, but "Medulla" is a very good, be it weird, album. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
