Anyway, definitely The Who.
Limp Bizkit (after Wes Borland left the band, but most likely should have packed it in earlier)

yeah, like right around the time they got together and came up with the name Limp Bizkit.

lol

I don't think any musician should call it quits if they still love making music, but in the spirit of the thread...

Lynrd Skynrd
AC/DC, though I love Back in Black
Van Halen obviously
Genesis
Kiss--post Peter Kriss/makeup
Menudo--after the first of them turned 16
Funkadelic--anyone see that album with the disclaimer "George Clinton had nothing to do with this album?"

and of course:
The Beatles--post Pete Best was just plain worthless!

eek

shake

SOOOOO much Kisstory without Pete, as much as I love him...

I totally agree that it won't be Queen....but...

I am torn on this issue. I mean, sure it won't be anything like classic Queen...but these are songs that Roger and Brian had a major hand in writing, why shouldn't they play them?

Maybe they should've just written a whole bunch of new songs with Paul Rodgers and started from scratch as a 'new' band?

I dunno. I agree that these reformations can tarnish a legend, but at the end of the day the old records are still available, the DVDs of the old shows are still around - Freddy is as alive now as he ever was for the majority of fans.

for me its the fact that their touring as queen not that there playing the songs

page and plant dont call themselves led zeppelin when they work together nod

As a long-term Queen admirer, (one of the first things I ever remember is seeing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' onTOTP!) and someone with close connections to a member, I have to totally agree with both you and Natisse there. I'm certainly not going to attend out of principle either.

They say themselves that they're not stating they're 'Queen' - but 'Queen and Paul Rogers' which I think is more than a little spurious personally. Anyone with two brain cells can see that without that title, they'd be playing tiny indoor venues, and not places like Hyde Park. Not only that, but they certainly wouldn't be using the logo if Freddie were still kickin' it, that much I can tell ya.

On the other hand, I feel for the guys, they LOVE playing live. But form another band for God's sakes! No-one would blame you for doing that, you don't have to feel guilty about leaving Queen behind...it's ok, it's ok...

pat

By all accounts, a large majority of members of their fan club were up in arms about this Q+PR thing anyway - not to mention that the reviews have been pretty ropey from both fans and critics alike.

If that wasn't bad enough, man... the support acts suck too. Razorlight and Peter fucking Kay? I can see it now 50,000 people (if they're lucky - certainly won't be the attendance they got when they played there in the mid seventies) singing 'Is This The Way To Amarillo' - why not just take a big steaming turd on the Queen legacy whilst you're at it guys? disbelief

Im off to have a bloody large vodka darlings.

Cheers!

falloff OMG I love it clapping ...and you are SOOO right about the Logo too seeing Freddie was the one who designed it I think it's really wrong sad

As much as I love Brian and Roger I admire John Deacon for having the balls to stay out of this one and not cash in on it

as for another band name both Brian and Roger have toured with other bands successfully so my twocents worth is that they should have kept it that way

sad

Oh yeah, that was what I was getting at really: Drop the name "Queen". After all, with the connotations of the name, it was Freddy who was the embodiment of the whole "Queen" thing.

With Page and Plant you hit the nail on the head; They realise it will never be Led Zep without the 4 original members, but they still play the songs, respectfully and with some interesting new approaches. If they tried to do them the same, they would sound like poor copies, but to take them somewhere new is taking risks but it is admirable.

Yeah, I still feel bad for Jonesy though because they never asked him to tour with them. sad Apparently, he was pretty pissed about that because they played mostly all Zeppelin songs on the Page/Plant tour. Again, Jonesy gets the shaft. comfort

I shouldn't complain though. biggrin I'm seeing Robert Plant with his band in July and he's doing quite a few Zeppelin songs I hear. nod

When the band were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame back in 1995, JPJ leant into the mic and said: 'Thanks to my friends for finally rememebring my number'. Feud or no feud, they all took to the stage with Jason Bonham on drums for the obligatory jam seesion.

One half of me understands why they left JPJ out (they said they didn't want it to be a 'Led Zep reunion' or to tout it as such, but the half of me thinks how crap that must have made the poor guy feel, and in that respect it was pretty unfair.

I hear you, but Say You Will was still a good album without her. At least Lindsey was back on board. The two studio albums they made during his departure were barf.

She didn't want to tour. The saddest thing is that they toured Tango In The Night without Lindsey (let's face it, it's pretty much his album) so I dunno why they couldn't do the same for Chris. She was willing to record with them but the rest of the band voted against it. I thought that was a little unfair.

as far as the Temps go...when you only have 1 member left, and he don't even sing lead..let it go.

whoever the light skinned fella is singing lead for heatwave is wretched..let it go

the commodores just suck without lionel richie. they had that one out the gate hit night shift...but going to see them now is like going to see destiny's child without beyonce...useless. lol
