Totally agree & a distinct lack of funk in this man's life ! lol

i've got talking heads, deee-lite, grace jones and laurie anderson's (nile rodgers produced) 'home of the brave' in my list, not to mention !!! and tom tom club. i think i'm doing okay with funky music, thanks. razz

hmmm As the Resident Org Funkologist fro , I felt you could've included got even more funkier and added some P-Funk into the mix Anxiety.

it's one of the few albums i know every single last lyric to. i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. lol

It's a VERY good thing! Me too. lol Which is your fave side - ONJ or ELO? giggle I love how that they're labeled that way on the record.

nod Indeed.

don't get me wrong - i love some p-funk - but i wouldn't say there are any full funkadelic albums i've heard that i'd consider a favorite of mine. of course, i have many that i've yet to listen to.

i tried to think of the music i like in terms of what i've liked throughout my life more than what i like now. of course, my opinion's always going to be skewed toward the present, but i tried really hard to take into account, for example, that while my favorite prince album NOW may be "come", i can't deny the fact that for a couple of years when i was a kid, i listened to "purple rain" EVERY DAMN DAY at least once. and while there might be bowie albums i listen to more now than "ziggy" or even "low", when i first heard those albums they made an enormous impact on me...without them, i wouldn't have discovered some of the other stuff that i listen to more now these days, just like i probably wouldn't be so into the "come" album if "purple rain" hadn't made such a profound effect on me.

after that, i just started listing stuff, and when i got near the end, i started putting the titles in order by a very crude system...on an average day, would i rather listen to X album than Y album? that's when i started having fun putting the list together.

Nice. Balanced. That's where I get all wiggy. I have a hard time separating "all-time" from how I feel "at the time". I usually tend to favor albums that've had a lasting impact, and newer things get the shaft. There should be a scientific system for this, lol. Ian, would you care to devise this? It's probably the only way I'll ever come up with something. lol

I'm glad you enjoyed making the list, Anx! It's quite fun.

Bro, there are a few different "scientific" approaches. You could:

1. Arrange albums by artist
2. Combine similar artists
3. Combine from there,

or

1. Arrange albums by year
2. Combine adjoining years
3. Continue the process,

or

1. Make a rough list of 150-200 albums up for consideration
2. Make flashcards
3. Shuffle the bitches
4. Make piles of 2, then 4, then 8, etc.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. smile

But my brain just shuts down when I have to go into math mode of any kind. Especially with something as left-brained as music.

Ian's helped me with ordering favorite artists before (which I never used to be able to do), and it made a lot of sense.

I'll just wait 'til math boy can sort me out. lol

holy shit!!!!

do u recommend Princess Superstar???

i picked up one of her albums once after she brought out Bad BabySitter but i had a change of heart.

Is she good?
I thought she was trying to hard to shock like Eminem.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

oh HELL no. she's somewhere between joan jett, debbie harry and sandra bernhard...only she's hip-hop. and kinda punk. i LOVE the princess. i will admit, however, that her first two albums are superior to her most recent CD.

i have tried several times to do this list, and i just can't. one of the big problems i'm having is seperating the "oldies" from the MTV and beyond age.. they don't seem to go together. maybe i should just do 1980 to present, cuz otherwise my top 5 or 6 will all be Beatles. hmmm.... these are hard!!!

mmmm, well, it's a good song - probably one of the best from the "is" album - but i'd hunt down the "CEO" album or the "last of the great 20th century composer" album if i were you. her singles tend to be pretty bare-bones.
