Bobby Caldwell - Open Your Eyes This really really is freaky and telling me that there is spirits watching & listening to me.
Well last night while listening to an old CD, Common's "The Light" came on. I havent heard it since 1999 or 2000. At the end I was like, "Wow that song sounded much better on headphones". Then wondered what the fuck was the sample taken from. I thought about it 2day, thought about posting it... Then all of a sudden while listening to KMOJ Funk Disco-Tech oldies in Mpls...what the hell!!! The real song comes on!!!! While I was recoring the show!!! When U need someone I will be by your side!!! [Edited 6/5/05 10:57am] Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Wrong or Right on that record sounds like something Gino Vannelli might have done. Perfect Island Nights... ...his latest, is filled with latin flavored ballady(?) tunes. Fine vocals throughout. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I forgot how I found out about "Open Your Eyes" being sampled by Common, and I had a suspicion, but at the same time figured studio alteration was involved. Bobby will be playing at the Berkeley Jazz Festival in July. I haven't heard any recent music since his big band/jazz period in the mid to late 90's. How is his latest release?
He's a great live performer, and he has lots of awesome songs beyond "What You Won't Do (Do For Love)." My fave album is Heart of Mine which came out in '87. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Bobby Caldwell has been dropping good stuff for years now. The first time I heard Common's song I recognized the Bobby Caldwell track. Maybe because I'm a BC fan. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.
