New Foo Fighters - In Your Honor I'm bummed. My hopes were really high for this one, but it's probabbly one of my least favorite Foo Fighters albums. Whereas Sign O The Times took full advantage of the double album format, with a wide variety of styles, and all the tracks were album-worthy and solid, this one falls flat.
In the past, Foo Fighters songs were amusing in that they would fluctuate between Dave singing softly to some mellow music, then it would just explode into a great rock chorus. On this album they basically seperate the two completely, so disc 1 is Dave screaming through 10 noisy tracks, and disc 2 is Dave heavily sedated and mumbling through 10 more tracks. Alot of the songs on disc 1 sound alike, and are noisy and over-produced. It starts off fantastic, with the first two tracks, In Your Honor and No Way Back. But by the end of the CD, it started to remind me of Machina. Like they were trying too hard to sound heavy. Disc 2 is more interesting, but also suffers from the same problem where all the tracks sound too much alike. Aside from "Razor", most of them are too melancholy and forgettable. The collaboration with Norah Jones is basically just Dave singing over a Norah Jones song, it doesnt even sound like FF playing, and is out of place on the CD. Disc 2 is growing on me a bit, but as a whole, they should have trimmed it down to one CD.

I haven't heard it yet, but I really like "Best of You", and based on the aforementioned song, have high hopes for the rest of the CD. Damn, now I'm thinking I'm gonna be let down come the 14th I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

It's not a hideous album, but I think they placed too much emphasis on making a double disc album split between rock and acoustic, that some of the songs suffered in the process. There are tracks on disc 1 that would have sounded better with a more modest production, and there are tracks on disc 2 that needed some extra "oomph" because they don't really build up to much.
