Talking Book OR Music Of My Mind Although, I dig much of the context of Music Of Mind (the production, the songs, the variety...), Talking Book is just the one that really made me understand who Stevie really was, after his 1960's period. It was the album that had everything you loved about him: the ballads, the FUNK, and most importantly those memorable synthesizer hooks. It wasn't just the songs that excited me, it was the album cover. It was the first time Stevie had ever showed he was blind, he sported an African outfit, and was shown with the beautiful braids. The original album cover had braille which stated: "This is my music" statement. One of the most attractive album covers Motown ever envisioned. On the other hand: Music Of My Mind, was an impressive record that showed that the boy who sang Fingertips and I Was Made To Love Her, just grew up. It showcases his origins of the synthesizer and how he could write his own songs. The songs weren't that strong either, but "Superwoman" was mindblowing and it was just amazing. How could anyone top that song? Both albums are revolutionary because it showed how an artist could have more independence and control of his music. But, to me, Talking Book beats Music Of My Mind down every notch. Check me out and add me on:

I would say Talking Book is so powerful because it was the turning point in Stevie's catalogue. Steve became more militant and incoporated the use of different syntthesizers in his songs.

Not so long ago I bought Talking book and i got music of my mind from the library.
I'm really appreciating Stevie's music (i was only familiar with is sixties hits). I think the man is a genius. One might think that Talkin book is soft and mellow.. well maybe it is, but it sounds so beautiful. Stevie is a great vocalist and an amazing keyboard player. Superstition is the most irresistable song ever, you gotta move on that one. Also like the fact that het addresses social problemes in Big Brother. Music of my mind.. well, i like it also, especially 'running', so damn funky. All respect to stevie, because he did it all. I'm definately going to buy me the rest of his seventies albums. What I don't understand is why the hell Stevie recorded that song with Blue.

Talking Book
Funny this thread comes up about it, because I've been listening to this album for the past two weeks over and over again. Just for "Maybe Your Baby" ALONE! So funky. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Talking Book.
Superwoman and I Love Every Little Thing About You are great songs, but there are NO weak songs on Talking Book. I can listen to this album from begin to end. And it's got that typical Stevie ballads like Blame It On The Sun and You've Got It Bad.

Yes and Yes. Love them both. Talking Book is easily the more influential of the two and a more solid album on the whole, but they're both goodies and Music of My Mind holds its own.

I realize that Talking Book is more popular among music fans, but I believe that Music of My Mind stands up over time as a great piece of art too. What about "Girl Blue"? What about Seems So Long"? "Sweet Little Girl"? I know that some people might not dig the twang in this one, but "Happier Than The Morning Sun" is one of my favorite songs OF ALL TIME. Don't get me wrong, I love Talking Book. I simply believe that it's predecessor is great in its own right and deserves more props than it gets.
