He's been trying to get me to do this for years and I still can't.

OK so I imagine a person starts with separate lists like ok my favorite albums by Prince, favorite albums by Janet... etc, then tries to order those?

That's how I'd have to do it. But that's also where I run into trouble. I don't too hard a time within each artist. But when you get into apples and oranges, it really fucks me up.

I can't help it - for some reason, this is my idea of a good time. I mean, I could have gone out tonight, got drunk or something, but instead I stayed in and spent an hour scanning through websites and trying to visualize my record collection. It's kinda perverse, really...

Some great albums in there.

I notice a couple of mentions for Echo & The Bunnymen..Do you have their "comeback" albums? If so, what do you think of them? So far there has been three, the middle one of which I thought was weak, but the other two were pretty good...Evergreen in particular.

:

I really liked the first Echo comeback album - was that Evergreen? I remember the single (Nothing Lasts, I think) being quite pleasant. It was a good solid record - a mature effort, with the band not trying to be anything other than what they are. I haven't heard the other two, but I did see them on tour in 2003 and it was, honest-to-god, no-bullshit, one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Slashing guitars that you could feel in your gut, more dry ice than I've ever seen at one time in my life and The Cutter for the first encore. Unimprovable.

There are a few different approaches. Sometimes I start by ordering albums by specific artists, then I combine artists of similar genre and then I combine genres.

Sometimes I start by ordering lists by year and then I group years, etc.

Sometimes I put the albums in random order and go from there. lol

Jeeeesus, how did you ever spot that?

Yeah, they're the same album - I'd decided to move Here Come the Warm Jets up, so I was going to exchange places with Belle and Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister - unfortunately I forgot to eradicate 199.

Adjustment made - I apologize for my blatant incompetence.

So your favorite Prince album is Come? I think that's the first time I've seen anyone pick that as their fav.

I think it's Anxiety's too.

This feels a little arbitrary, and since I don't have access to my vinyl at the moment I'm sure I've forgotten more than a few favourites, but this is the best I can do under the circumstances:

34) Prince – Come

I can say with absolutely no reservations that Come is my favourite Prince album. I’m not going to claim that it contains his most timeless songwriting (song for song, SOTT, 1999 and PR are finer albums, I’ll grant) but I do think that come is his most striking and unique record, musically and lyrically – I return to it more often than I do any other album he’s released.

Mind you, I always make sure I edit out Orgasm and Solo before I queue the album up.

Great list! I've been wanting these for awhile. Are numbers 103 and 199 the same ablum?

Jeeeesus, how did you ever spot that?

Yeah, they're the same album - I'd decided to move Here Come the Warm Jets up, so I was going to exchange places with Belle and Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister - unfortunately I forgot to eradicate 199.

Adjustment made - I apologize for my blatant incompetence.

Sorry, man. I really didn't mean to attack your list. sad I think it's great. I'm not familiar with Eno's solo work so I wasn't sure if they were the same.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Oh, no offense taken at all - I was (and still am) just amazed that you were able to pick out a duplication out of a list of 200 records. That is truly a unique talent that you have!

I've got nothin' but love for "Come". It's definitely striking, like you say. I could go on and on describing that one.

I'm happy to see I'm not alone on this one. I never quite understood the drubbing that album took from critics and fans - it immediately struck me as being one of his most 'complete' recordings. Besides the fact that it's one his darkest albums - some of his most demented lyrics are to be found here, I think (I mean that in the best possible sense) - I also found it to be a relief to have a relatively concise album. Come came on the heels of Grafitti Bridge, D&P and Symbol - three lengthy and (I thought) pretty bloated albums. It felt like a reprieve to have a fairly brief album with eight pretty damned good songs that weren't polluted with segues and Tony M.

As for Come, I think there are only 2 good songs, and one great one, on that album, but Tony M almost singlehandedly kept the 2 good albums preceding Come from being great albums.

136. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, Original Broadway Cast (sdtk)

Craziness! As I looked over Monbeam's list, JCS immediately popped into my head as one for my list. Both the sdtk and the Indigo Girls' version of the 1990's.
