Wow, I don't know what to say! Unfortunately, I don't currently have in my possession as many titles as you may think. Between leaving home (many moons ago), moving in general and spiteful old girlfriends (they knew where to hurt me), i've lost quite a few precious recordings over the years. Many of the things I post about involves music that i've heard (and i've heard a lot) just by being alive this many years. Being blessed with a kind of photographic memory for melody (slowly fading with age) helps a great deal. Hopefully, some of the older music I post about will pique some younger listener's interest. Maybe even researching what the things they listen to now may be based on. I just love music. It's the closest thing i'm aware of to real magic. * wrong word edit tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm [Edited 5/31/05 10:55am] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Ex-Moderator | 1. approximately how many albums (cd, vinyl etc..) do you own?
My last count/estimate was somewhere between 400-500. 2. which ONE is your all time favourite? I could never pick just one. It wouldn't be fair to the others. 3. which artist do you have the most by? Prince. But mainly cause he's the most prolific and Prince fans just LOVE to share things. 4. what is your favourite style/genre of music? style/genre? I guess you could call it that indie/alternative thing... 5. take this moment to think of 2 albums from your collection that you've not played in quite some time. which 2 are they? Beck Odelay, Radiohead Amnesiac But there's a LOT I don't play that often... 6. how do you catagorize your collection? a-z by artists? by style? etc... a-z, then in the order of release (by same artist) 7. what album in your collection would shock your family and friends to know that you actually own or even liked it? I have pretty eclectic tastes and most folks know it, so I don't think anything would be particularly shocking... 8. recommend an album you feel more people should know about. I'm not pushy about my music. I never think about it in terms of "should". But I like recommending things to people if I know they might dig it. 9. do you clean your cd player and cds as recommended? nah 10. for the right price: would you or could you part with your collection? I don't think I would... 11. what album, single, etc...are you desperately trying to get your hands on? Nothing I can think of at the moment, I'm not much of a collector. 12. what is the most you've ever spent on a single album? The usual price. Again - I'm not a collector. 13. which is the longest (playing time) album you own? Some of my mix CDs run pretty long, I guess I never checked... 14. do you lend out music? not really. If I want to share something I'm more apt to burn it for them. 15. do you still buy music or just download everything? I never download anything. I'm not that technically savvy. 16. vinyl: 'i still collect it' or 'what's vinyl?' I have a few old records in storage at my parents, but I don't have a turntable. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why? again, I can't pick a fave 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for? I don't own any rarities unless they are burned copies someone was kind enough to give me as a gift 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd? eh, I don't worry about pricing... 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..? not at all. I've never been a collector. Wow, I keep repeating myself 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid? oh, plenty! Gooey, TRON, Anxiety... I'd say endorphin74, but I get the privilege of hearing all of it most of the time anyway... |

I don't collect it anymore. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why? So hard.... so many of them that I couldn't part with. That's why the Ipod will be the making of me. No more deliberating for hours on which CDs to take with me that day. 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for? I don't think I have anything that cool. 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd? £9.99 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..? I'm not a single collector. I prefer albums but I have a full Madonna collection and a full Prince collection as far as official releases go. I used to have a full JJ catalogue but I didn't go in for Damita Jo. 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid? After these photos.... Chico's! [/qu

Nice thread. Love it.
1. approximately how many albums (cd, vinyl etc..) do you own? About 2000 CDs (albums, 3"s, 5"s, EPs) and 1000 vinyls (mostly albums, 10", 12", some 7"s) plus some acetates and few downloads. Bootleg count: maximum of 100. Vast majority has been acquired officially or used and/or traded. 2. which ONE is your all time favourite? Has to be the disc A of SOTT or side B to Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love (The Ninth Wave). 3. which artist do you have the most by? Easily Prince. 4. what is your favourite style/genre of music? None. Mainly Popular. Start from experimental as in David Sylvian and Roger (!) Eno, go on with singer/songwriter as in Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Tori Amos, Paul Weller, step on to pop as in Madonna, Pet Shop Boys, and after we went through The Cult and Manic Street Preachers we'll end up with GNR, Marilyn Manson, NIN. So: No real folk, no reggae (for heaven's sake!), no country, no cheesy "Schlager"; rap only exceptionally. 5. take this moment to think of 2 albums from your collection that you've not played in quite some time. which 2 are they? David Torn: Cloud Above Mercury; Pete Townshend: Iron Man (Musical). Two of my very first CDs (late eighties). Gosh... don't know if I will EVER listen to them again... 6. how do you catagorize your collection? a-z by artists? by style? etc... a) a-z artist b) chronological c) alternatively if it's a "main" artist like Manic Street Preachers: first the albums (chronologically), then the single releases (chronologically) d) Prince does not apply to any rules... I steadily keep on on rearranging 7. what album in your collection would shock your family and friends to know that you actually own or even liked it? Nothing really. 8. recommend an album you feel more people should know about. Maybe the second half of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" = "The Nineth Wave". Otherwise, abroad more people might take a listen to Niels Frevert (German singer/songwriter) while in Germany/Europe it's Michael Penn or Manic Street Preachers who are underrated. Any album. 9. do you clean your cd player and cds as recommended? Nope. 10. for the right price: would you or could you part with your collection? I consider taking a different approach to collecting - if I'll have the time to. This means parting with my clear vinyl Batdance 12"s and purple and blue IWUH 12"s. I'd focus on acquiring pieces, cataloguing them and reselling them. My object of desire would be to get my hands on some very expensive pieces and most of all to assemble a close to complete catalogue. 11. what album, single, etc...are you desperately trying to get your hands on? Nothing at the moment. The "Waldorf Salad" album by W&L's first (childhood) band would be great. (btw: sorry to you, sosgemini... hadn't the time to get in touch again! Hope I will find some minutes soon after my marriage ) 12. what is the most you've ever spent on a single album? Don't really remember... phew. Much. 13. which is the longest (playing time) album you own? Looking into my computer's jukebox I find those albums: 1:19:40 - Jimmy Page & Robert Plant: No Quarter 1:19:25 - OST: The Crow - City Of Angels 1:19:10 - Coloursound - Coloursound Complete Vol. II 14. do you lend out music? Rarely. 15. do you still buy music or just download everything? Download: Only officially and exclusive tracks. Anything other I do buy. 16. vinyl: 'i still collect it' or 'what's vinyl?' If I had the time I'd still collect. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why? I think it's a set of 3 acetates of early Prince UK "MegaMixes" - if you'd like to call them like that. They date back to pre-1999 and I exchanged some letters with the engineers who were involved in the making. The mix has been their idea yet it didn't get the ok from Prince's camp. I'd always wanted to tell the story on the org sometime... well, let's see. 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for? Dunno. Some are nice. but not necessarily unique. Nor do I own an original TBA US promo CD housed in a long sleeve. Maybe there's something for Aimee Mann fans: A 2(!)-CD copy of her first album. The second CD includes the usual rarities from that time. It's been fully printed by the then official pressing plant for BMG but it has not been known to Aimee or her management until I acquired it. And it's not labelled as a promo. 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd? A fair solution would include different variations.
> additionally various packaging material either for download or print > generated from the variations above some hard copies to buy: >> naked >> standard >> deluxe So the starting price for a standard, "naked" CD might be 9 to 10 bucks. 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..? Prince & Wendy & Lisa I think. Tori Amos, Manic Street Preachers, Aimee Mann, Nine Inch Nails, The Mission, The Cult are VERY close though... 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid? None. I'd envy him or her for some pieces. I think we have to remind ourselves, the main thing about a collection is to own. It's all about sitting on it. Which sometimes make me quite sad... not only that I'm merely listening to one song at a time. As any collector I own pieces just for the different colour. Some addtional writing... Sad. That's why I want to get rid off the collection sometime soon. To me, it's the music that counts. The satisfaction of "conquering" some rare piece or to be one of only 10 to 30 people worldwide to hold it in my hands is something I can get from cataloguing some vault. And hey, Ivy, if you're around: a REAL big hug to you! [Edited 5/30/05 8:07am]

1. approximately how many albums (cd, vinyl etc..) do you own?
Actually, not more than around 350 originals at the moment. I have sold about 250 CDs in the last year or so. Good decision. Of course, I have double the same amount of downloaded records on my hard drive as well. 2. which ONE is your all time favourite? "Shock Front" by Converter 3. which artist do you have the most by? Prince 4. what is your favourite style/genre of music? Industrial 5. take this moment to think of 2 albums from your collection that you've not played in quite some time. which 2 are they? I've sold most of the crappy ones and the ones that I don't really listen to. I guess "Blue Lines" by Massive Attack and a collection of Sly Stone's early track, whose title eludes me. 6. how do you catagorize your collection? a-z by artists? by style? etc... My pop/rock/jazz CDs (what there is left) by artist, and in chronological order under the artists. My industrial/electronic/experimental CDs/LPs by genre/record company and in chronological order as well. I keep them on separate shelves. 7. what album in your collection would shock your family and friends to know that you actually own or even liked it? Holly Valance: "Footprints". But that's just because nobody would accept it at exchange stores, and I bought it because I bought it as a joke at one of her promotive mall gigs. 8. recommend an album you feel more people should know about. Immiment Starvation: "Nord" 9. do you clean your cd player and cds as recommended? I don't think it's recommended to clean them. So no, I don't. CDs shouldn't be touched unless you have problems playing them. 10. for the right price: would you or could you part with your collection? I already have. See above. I have no sentimental ties with material objects anymore. It's just healthy. 11. what album, single, etc...are you desperately trying to get your hands on? Hmmmm. I'd like to have Monokrom's first untitled album on ant-zen. I don't think more than a couple of hundred were pressed and its been a long deleted item. 12. what is the most you've ever spent on a single album? 25 euros on "The Rainbow Children" as import, I skip rarities. 13. which is the longest (playing time) album you own? From the official albums, "Emancipation" by Prince. I do have some 5CD bootleg live releases and the like as well. 14. do you lend out music? Yes I do. People seem to be quite slow on returning the albums though, so I'm not that keen on it anymore. 15. do you still buy music or just download everything? I don't download anything at the moment. Just received another package of CDs in the mail, worth 51 euros. That got me four CDs. 16. vinyl: 'i still collect it' or 'what's vinyl?' Some smalled pressings that aren't made available on CD. Or if some of my friends have their new records come out just on vinyl I usually get those that way. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why? I think a record like Blamstrain's "Ensi" would be a nice choice, because there's a lot of fondness involved in finally finding it after a long search. But everything's repleceable. 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for? About 100 of my CDs are by definition rarities. I'm sure there are quite a few records there that some individuals would just about "kill for". 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd? I usually don't pay more than 70 euros, from the web. I don't usually find the type of music that I listen to on record stores. 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..? I'd like to have almost everything by Prince, but it's not that important. 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid? No one's. I don't think anyone else here listens to remotely same type of music that I do.

1. approximately how many albums (cd, vinyl etc..) do you own?
I have no idea but it is definately a lot. 2. which ONE is your all time favourite? "1999" by Prince 3. which artist do you have the most by? Over the years, it has been Prince. He's the only one still around doing funk and he has still continued releasing albums over the years, as well as 12 Inches. 4. what is your favourite style/genre of music? Funk 5. take this moment to think of 2 albums from your collection that you've not played in quite some time. which 2 are they? There's a lot more than two that I haven't played in a while. When you have such a large collection, there's no way to listen to all of it on a regular basis. I have to be in a particular mood to play a certain album. 6. how do you catagorize your collection? a-z by artists? by style? etc... I place them by style first. Then I place them by oldest to newest but I do keep all of one artist's records together though. That throws plenty of the years off but I know where everything is. I need to get some more CD holders because all of mine are full and I've got lots of recently purchased CDs sitting on a shelf with no organization. 7. what album in your collection would shock your family and friends to know that you actually own or even liked it? The Carpenters Greatest Hits 8. recommend an album you feel more people should know about. I only recommend music when I'm asked about a particular artist or genre. Everyone has different tastes so it would be impossible for me to recommend an album that everyone likes. 9. do you clean your cd player and cds as recommended? No 10. for the right price: would you or could you part with your collection? No 11. what album, single, etc...are you desperately trying to get your hands on? "Out From The Shadow" by The Stone City Band 12. what is the most you've ever spent on a single album? Whatever the price that Prince's "Emancipation", "Crystal Ball", or one of the other box sets was. I can't remember. 13. which is the longest (playing time) album you own? It would have to be one of the Prince box sets. 14. do you lend out music? No. I've made friends tapes for years and when my CD burner was working I used to burn them CDs. I never, ever lend anyone an original. I've made that mistake in the past and it will never happen again. I also don't listen to original tapes or CDs in the car, only copies. There's too much chance that a tape will get eaten up or a CD will get scratched. Also, if my car ever gets broken into, the thief won't get shit. 15. do you still buy music or just download everything? I buy all my music. In the late 1990s, I downloaded a lot of early Prince unreleased music, which took forever to download. Then I rolled the computer into the other room, plugged it into the stereo, and recorded the songs on tape. It was a big hassle. When I bought a CD burner, then I burned the tracks on CD. My CD burner was not a computer burner, it was an actual stereo component. I wanted it that way so I could burn my vinyl and tapes onto CDs. It doesn't work any more but when I do replace it, it will be for the stereo and not the computer. The only way I would download something is if it extremely rare and not available in stores. Downloading is too much trouble and takes too much time. 16. vinyl: 'i still collect it' or 'what's vinyl?' I still buy vinyl. I have two turntables and a mixer so I have no problem with vinyl. I also have two CD players with pitch control. If I feel like mixing shit up, I have every avenue covered. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why? I have no idea. 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for? I thought I had some rare Prince stuff, but after joining this site, I see everyone else has it too. There are probably some Rick James fans that would kill for my Stone City Band album called "In N Out". 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd? $15 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..? Yes but only if they are different versions. For instance, I don't have the 12 Inch of "When Doves Cry" by Prince because it is the album version and the B Side, "17 Days" is the same as the 45. 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid? Paligap, The Real Finess, David Eye, and The Audience's spiteful old girlfriends' record collections. [Edited 5/30/05 11:50am] Andy is a four letter word.

Oh, you would definately go hog wild in my collection because there is funk for days. I've even got funk that the radio didn't play much of back in the day. I've seen you around in the funk threads but I never would have guessed you were 26 because you've got great taste in funk. I thought you one of the old timers like me in the late 30s. [Edited 5/30/05 12:07pm] Yeah Vaniday I'm only 26 but I've been blessed with so many family members who I grew up around that had all kinds of music playing. My dad is a hardcore jazz fan, I was schooled on Miles by the time I was 8, my mom is a classic soul fan so I heard alot of EWF, Marvin Gaye, Stevie etc..... as a kid. My love of funk can actually be traced to one vital source, HIP-HOP. I'm one of the kids who would hear a sample they used and want to hear the original. Dr. Dre introduced me to P-Funk more so then any of my family members, his whole "Chronic" album is pretty much "Mothership Connection" reborn with rappin instead of singing. I discovered Rick James on my own as a teen, I already knew the hits but it was the album cuts that I had yet to hear. Needless to say I'm a big Rick James fan now, I hipped all my friends to Rick way before the Chappelle skit, I was making them tapes of all that punk funk. I always say to my older family members that sampling ain't always a bad thing if it helps young cats like me who have an ear for some good music discover something ORIGINAL! I sometimes wish I was a little older Vaniday,my favorite musical period is 1975-1985, so much great music came out during that period it's CRAZY! [Edited 5/30/05 20:35pm]

Possibly Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible (Special Edition). Fantastic album that really touched a nerve when it first came out and holds a lot of memories. 3. which artist do you have the most by? Prince, though that is due to his vast output rather than anything else.
4. what is your favourite style/genre of music?
Rock. From Heavy Rock to Heavy Metal, really. 5. take this moment to think of 2 albums from your collection that you've not played in quite some time. which 2 are they?
Big Country - Through A Big Country The Alarm - Change 6. how do you catagorize your collection? a-z by artists? by style? etc...
A-Z by Artist. 7. what album in your collection would shock your family and friends to know that you actually own or even liked it?
Most people find it odd that I own a Wham! best of. Hell, I find it odd... 8. recommend an album you feel more people should know about.
Technique - New OrderMost people have heard their obvious hits, fewer have spent time getting to know this joy of a record. 9. do you clean your cd player and cds as recommended?
CD's get a wipe down, player gets neglected 10. for the right price: would you or could you part with your collection?
No way Jose! 11. what album, single, etc...are you desperately trying to get your hands on?
None at the moment, although there are some I have had my eye on for a while that I am waiting to see reduced - You know how certain albums are ALWAYS expensive and never make the sales? 12. what is the most you've ever spent on a single album?
Probably about £20, though I don't recall 13. which is the longest (playing time) album you own?
No idea...Although I will add that sometimes less is more 14. do you lend out music?
Only very, very reluctantly. Nowadays I use the line "..Hey, I'll do one better: I'll burn you a copy" 15. do you still buy music or just download everything?
Buy. I have to have the physical medium, it is part of the enjoyment. I have bought albums on CD that I once owned on cassette and have never played the CD at all. I just like to know it is there, kinda thing! 16. vinyl: 'i still collect it' or 'what's vinyl?'
Never had a decent deck, so although I keep my old vinyl, I would never buy any again. Don't like it, it's too fragile and the sleeves rip too easily. I long since made my peace with CD's and CD jewel cases. Now we are best buddies. 17. which part or single album do you treasure the most and why?
Again, that damn Manic Street Preachers album. It is like a work of art to me, I could hang it on my wall and just stare at the damn thing. 18. what rarity do you have that you know everyone else would just about kill for?
None 19. what do YOU feel would be a fair price for a new cd?
Currently in the UK we do ok. I say £10 is a fair price. 20. with your favourite artist/s: do you have to have every album, single, import, etc..?
Oh God YES!!!! 21. which orger's music collection would you love to steal or raid?
Minneapolisgenius - sounds like one seriously good rock collection!
