the Cure group has been disbanded by Robert Smith http://ourworld.compuserv...ofFlowers/
Well, there's not much sense in withholding this any longer, and judging from the e-mails of the last couple of days, it's not exactly a state secret - Roger O'Donnell, Perry Bamonte and Daryl Bamonte are no longer with The Cure. To each of you, our sincerest thanks for everything you contributed to The Cure and to the fans over these many years. We will miss you, and we wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose to do next.

I knew it!
It seems like there's quite a bit of turmoil in the Cure camp lately with these strange announcements, threats against websites (a la Prince), and just general confusion surrounding what they're doing. But they are continuing with festival dates, so that's at least promising. The day Bob calls it quits and hangs up The Cure name for good will be a very sad day indeed. And with them, you never really can tell what's gonna happen.

Not! As long as Robert and Simon are involved, I'm happy. I am not a follower of the band, to be honest, but I am of the opinion that Robert Smith (and Simon Gallup to a lesser extent) IS the Cure..You know, whatever he does, he will always have that distinctive voice and musical style..I wouldn't worry too much if I were a Cure fan. I get the feeling the rest were just hired hands...?

Yes, that's true. They're all pretty interchangeable at this point. I can't even tell you how many lineup changes they've had. Well over 10. Just the way people have been talking, they make it seem as if something sinister is going on in Cureville.

I don't mind... keeps things interesting. Robert = The Cure.
Although, I do like Simon

CONFIRMATION from ROGER O DONNELL 27/5/5> http://www.rogerodonnell..../news.html As of Tuesday this week I am no longer a member of The Cure I have prepared an official statement which will be released when timely. It was sad to find out after nearly 20 years the way I did but then I should have expected no less or more. I will try and reply to every email of support I receive but if I don't get to yours, THANK YOU. The fans have always been very important to me and will remain so. I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can when I tour my album later this year, hopefully in a more relaxed and happy atmosphere than has surrounded The Cure these last couple of years.

As long as Robert and Simon are on board, I am. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

robert smith has disbanded the cure and called it quits multiple times over the years. so, i would not get all worked up about it quite yet. the cure will, most likely, rise again. ------------------------------------------------

Major shakeup. I wonder if there will ever be a clear answer on this.

Maybe Robert gets a little more inspiration when he surrounds himself with some new musicians. The last record was proof enough that he needs it. In my opinion it was the worst of his whole career along with Wild Mood Swings of course.
I just wonder how he will do the festival-dates without them.

I just wonder how he will do the festival-dates without them. i wasn't crazy about the last cure album either, but i do feel like its heart was in the right place, unlike an album like 'wild mood swings' or 'high', both of which seemed bloated and phoned-in to me. i think the last cure album was a case of the band being too close to the project as opposed to too removed from it. it's only that the album comes off as so heartfelt that makes me able to listen to it at all...that, and i like 'alt.end'.

I have ALL of The Cure's lp's from the 80's. Robert Smith is a brilliant songwriter. His lyrics are excellent. My fave Cure album is "Kiss Me, Kiss Me". I don't think there is one song on that double album that I dislike. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

You should revisit "Wish" sometime. There are at least half of the songs on there that are absolute classics. Open, End, High, Deep Green Sea, Elise and Wish are all top shelf Cure songs in my book. And the b-sides are among the strongest batch of their career. And I love the latest Cure album. It's strange to me how many people have turned against it since it came out.

New album?
CURIOUS NEWS FROM CURE The Cure won't be touring Britain until next year, PS can reveal. Although they're playing festivals in Europe, Robert Smith told PS: "I want to bring the Curiosa event here next year. I spent a lot of time researching the bill last year for America. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME NOW, WE'RE DOING A NEW LP." Smith added: "We won't do Glastonbury, as they've fallen out with us. I was told they think we've never done a good performance whenever we've played there." And according to "Second Source" (who turned out to be 100% correct last friday), the trio have already recorded 5 songs and we might see some sort of preview before the festivals.

isn't it a little early for a new cure album?

I can't believe you fucking people. Hired hands? Wish wouldn't be half the album it is if not for Roger & Perry. They've been in the band way too long (roger for nearly 20 and Perry for nearly 15) to not be considered integral parts of the group. Just because the band has had a lot of members over the years doesn't mean they are just robots, programmed to do Robert's will. Vince Ely was a hired hand, Andy Anderson was a hired hand. Not Roger & Perry.
That being said, I'd rather see Jason go than either one of them. He's never impressed me. I can only hope that the next album isn't another Wild Mood Swings (Which is the album we got after the last major change in members). No, I don't like the Self-titled album, and I can't explain why other than the lyrics suck, Robert's vocals are atrocious, and the mix is awful. The fact that Robert said in an interview that he would choose producer Ross Robertson over any member of the band makes me really not respect him. That being said too, I'm glad that Simon is sticking around. He's been in the band since almost the beginning, (with a short break in the early 80s), but I have to wonder what he thinks about this turn of events. Maybe, just maybe the next album will be a return to the early cure sound, when they were just a three piece, as they are now. I'm really, really going to miss keyboards in the cure tho. How will they perform ALOT of their classic songs now? All else, it will be interesting to see what happens next. They definately have my attention. Keep your headphones on.

He doesn't even look like a Cure member. Way too normal and well adjusted. I don't like the overall tone of what's happening either. It sounds like things were done without respect and the ending wasn't a happy one. I'm hearing vague comments about Robert threatening Chain of Flowers too which has me a little worried he's Princeing out on us. That would even be worse than a band lineup change.

ya know, i'm gonna offer my piddly little two cents here and add that in the e-mail i got about the cure's summer festival shows, the very last line said something to the effect of "remember: thecure.com deals in facts, not rumors."
i dunno. interesting, given all the current hullaballoo. i hope robert doesn't act like a twunt to his fan sites.
