Sonic Youth fans rejoice: GOO goes DELUXE! i just got this e-mail from sonicyouth.com:
Sonic Youth are putting the finishing touches on their Deluxe Edition
re-issue of 1990's "Goo". The 2xCD edition will be released by Universal/Geffen while the 4xLP vinyl edition will be released by SY's own Goofin' imprint via SLR. The Deluxe Edition of "Goo" will include the original LP re-mastered along with remixed/re-mastered 8-track demos, B-sides, rehearsal tracks, studio out-takes and more. A deluxe full-color LP size booklet will be included in the vinyl box set with essays by Byron Coley and Mark Kates. SYR 6 is also being prepared for release. This CD edition of the SYR series is a recording of the benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives on April, 12 2003. Sonic Youth performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes. Part of the proceeds of this CD will again benefit the Anthology Film Archives. Coming in the Fall: While in Melbourne last June, Lee, Thurston, Steve, and Jim recorded direct to disc at Corduroy studios for what is being released as a limited-edition double vinyl album. Eight hundred copies of the four-track instrumental record are being pressed by Saucerlike records. One hundred of those will be available through sonicyouth.com. this is great news - "goo" is up there with some of my favorite prince and bowie albums as one of my favorite records of all time. i can't wait to hear all the extra goodies. woo hoo - GOO!

the only super special deluxxxe edition they have so far is "dirty", which is a really sweet package - tons of extra music, great packaging, great liner note essays, and even some art created for sonic youth by kurt cobain.

I wonder if Thurston, Kim, Kurt and Courtney ever had a thing.

(though kim DID produce the first hole album, ya know.) Why ew? I just wondered cuz there seems to be than a little love going on between all of them. And with the rumors about Kurt and Stipe getting together and Courtney and EVERYBODY getting together, it seems like a likely scenario.

Perhaps. we're talking about a band that has a fashion designer for a bassist, a novelist for a guitarist, and one of the most knowledgeable rock historians alive as lead guitarist. not to mention this wasn't too long before kim and thurston's daughter was born...from all that i've read, i think they got their "rock'n'roll lifestyle" ya-ya's out of the way far before the grunge years.

I ran into Kim once in the men's bathroom at the Black Cat club in D.C. and I told her she was in the men's room, thinking she had made a mistake, and she said "so" and I was like "that's so cool". She was there performing with her side project Free Kitten which was pretty horrible but I love Sonic Youth. Daydream Nation blew me away when I first heard it on my FM portable stereo cassette player. Goo and Dirty are great as well. They also are great live.

the one time i saw them live, they were freakin' transcendent. the way they're able to all manipulate the feedback on their guitars so they're squealing in harmony...good lord...it made my ears ring in this weird way that made me think i was hearing a choir.
