She had said many times that she wanted to stay true to the song and not change the words, so she kept "girl" until the end when she says "boy." The whole song is about a girl until the very last line when she says "boy." In interviews she said she knew people who were gay and bisexual and that it was their reality and wanted to do a song for them. If it was about a threesome, she would have gone back and forth between boy and girl throughout the song. She would have been more explicit and clear I do recall this interview. Ok that answer makes more sense then the last one you made, but this is just my opinion I think she's singing about her own experiences, not saying that she doesn't have friends or acquantances that are like that. No she didn't go back and forth in the song, stead she keeps singing about a girl and then at the end changes to a boy. All I'm saying is if I don't go that way I DEFINITELY would've changed the line to boy instead of girl. When Rod Stewart was singing it he was a guy singing a song about a woman. Janet is a woman that should've been singing the song to a man. Here's a prime example: For years people have speculated that Luther Vandross is gay, put he has never denied it or confirmed it. On his album titled Songs (a compilation of cover songs)he sang "All the Woman I Need" remaking Whitney Houston's All the Man that I Need. He could've left the song alone and kept it Man that I need, but he didn't he changed it to Woman. Same thing with Whitney folks have speculated over and over that she is a lesbian, but is she singing All the Woman, No, she said Man. Janet was singing about her own freaky experiences I don't care what she said in that interview. She was coming out to us in that song. But, also, Janet has made it a point in her interviews to say that "The Velvet Rope" as a whole can mean many different things to many people. A lot of the themes on the album are left open-ended, so for you "Tonight's The Night" may've been about "bisexuality," but for someone else it could just be a night where the rules between "who" you love are blurred under the guise of darkness. . [Edited 5/31/05 12:41pm] Luther and Whitney have different audiences and are not into "pushing the envelope" as much as other in the industry for example, I haven't seen Janet all over women in a video, but I have seen Christian Aguilera get close and personal with girls in her Dirrty video. There are different levels for everyone

I hope she won't and will start taking lessons on being a better singer and singing LIVE!

That one concert The Velvet Rope there were a couple of songs she sang live and hit quite a few bad notes. She is a great live performer. She's a dancer. A singer. She is not. That is why I didn't agree with her being the first choice to honor Luther Vandross with the Lifetime achievement award last year. Patti Labelle should've been first choice not second. Patti is in the same category as Luther: a sanger. Janet isn't.

"That one concert" you don't see many of her performances, obviously I have never seen her live in the flesh, but I don't have to cuz I've seen both of those HBO concerts and I'm sure it would've been the same thing live in the flesh, not to mention most of her tv performances. She sings to pre-recorded tapes because she is doing alot of dancing and she is wearing the one thing that most ENTERTAINERS that don't sing live wear, the microphone you wear on the side of your face. Janet can't sing. Her voice isn't much different then it was when she recorded her first album at 16. You notice Prince hardly wears those. He uses the real microphone. The only time I noticed him wearing those was when he was (lol) lip-synching Emancipation on a couple of tv appearances, but NOT HIS LIVE SHOWS. MsLegs: Thanks for agreeing about Patti Labelle. Most people agreed on that one. I've got nothing against Janet, but before Luther had that stroke I don't ever remember him hanging around Janet or saying Janet Jackson is one of his influences or he loved her voice. They did that one song "The best things in life are free", which was a wack song to me, and that gives reason to pick Janet over Patti Labelle, a powerhouse singer. Plueeze.
