So basically, you're on Billy's nuts.

Basically, you can lick mine.

"Scream" is a pathetic song, and worse than any of these new teeny bopper songs on top 40 radio -- I'm surprised it's not #1.

So what? He had a few good new ones and the hits were awesome.

Without Steve Stevens, Billy Idol is nothing.

Yeah, okay.

So Billy Idol still curses? Wow! If you're trying to get rebellious teenagers (and a bunch of middle-aged, stuck in the 80's losers) to buy your cds and see you in concert, that's the way to do it!

At least he's no pussy.

Prince cussed and "dirited" up his songs for the past few decades, and when no one was doing it. Millions have heard it before. Why should he continue to do it now, just to satisfy you little bitches who are still stuck in the 80's, have no open-mind to new experiments with his music, and change? He's proven that he can rock without doing any of this Billy Idol crap. See Pollstar (#1 Concert of 2004).

Beacuse people went to hear the hits, the same reason people went to see Billy Idol.

So you can suck Prince's ass all you want. He's only making money because of the old stuff. And anyone with a brain knows that.

I like Billy Idol, but comparing people in that sense is pointless. Billy does what he does, Prince does what he wants to do..I think we should respect the fact that they chose their respective paths without having to compare them...because in reality comparing things like that is pointles and subjective.

The point is that Prince "fams" keep saying that Prince is too old and mature to curse and act wild, and I'm saying that age doesn't mean shit.

Yeah, Billy Idol ROCKS! headbang But I wouldn't go comparing him to Prince. We all know that Billy has always been much more dangerous than our purple hero. Even back in his heyday in the 80's, Billy just didn't give a fuck.

I saw him on Conan o'Brien last night and he still looked great. He took the shirt off and proceeded to do his thing. Steve Stevens was also kicking ass on his 6-string too. He's a great guitarist.

Damn, I wish I could've seen them in concert myself. pout

Anxiety

ya know, i respect billy idol for keeping in shape and trying hard to reclaim his former glory, but he's not gonna come anywhere close to the comeback prince had, and whatever modest comeback billy has isn't going to be remembered the way prince's 2004 will be remembered.

billy idol has a far narrower schtick than prince. prince might be living off his 80s/90s hits for the rest of his life, but he has the ability to repackage his image and persona to make that same ol' shit look brand new every few years. plus, whether ya care for it or not, there's a level of prince's output that transcends the 'nostalgia act' route - albums like N*E*W*S or The Rainbow Children might not be making Prince his millions, but the man matches his artistic endeavors with smarts - he caters to the mainstream audiences to fund the work he wants to do, which might only be embraced by the fans, but still proves that he's moved on from being solely about regurgitating 'kiss' and 'let's go crazy' into infinity.

as for the cussing? whatevs. it was fun in the 80s. these days, i'd rather watch peaches flash her crotch and be vulgar. in 20 years, i'm sure she'll look ridiculous doing that. or maybe not. john waters made the movie "hairspray" without nudity or profanity to shock hardcore fans who expected him to be lewd, and it turned out to be his most profitable movie. go figure. shrug

People are always thinking people should tone it down because they are getting older. Big deal. Tina Turner was in her 40s when she made her big comeback in the 1980s with the spiked hair and hard rock. Cher is old as hell and still performs in skimpy outfits. Hell, look at Aerosmith, they've been around forever also and still can get raunchy when they need to. If you still got it, flaunt it.

Even on the R&B/funk side, The Barkays still have a wild appearance and they are pushing 60, if they are not already there yet. They perform with fire and two boa constrictors, just like the old days. Cameo still keeps it wild in concert. Rick James still wore his braids and continued talking cash shit till the day he died. The Time still comes out in their pimp threads and attitude.

Age ain't nothing but a number.

I like Billy Idol. I want to like "Make Me Scream". But it sounds like a watered down "White Wedding" with awful lyrics. neutral I've considered buying the album to see if there was anything better. Thoughts?

Of course Prince had a bigger comeback, he's a bigger artist.

But as far as keeping it real goes, Billy has him beat.

How so? I don't get you, bro. Prince is being as real as he can get. He has stripped down his show, he focuses on what he does best .. playing music. He is keeping it real. From my personal experience and what I have heard he has turned into a pretty cool and likable person. So what is the problem you have? If you don't dig his current direction in music, cool, I can hang with that. But that has nothing to do with keeping it real. Cussing doesn't either. What is it?

Prince changed his behavior cuz Larry laid a guilt trip on him. So he adjusted his behavior to be more G-Rated. In the process, he became boring and overly safe. He changed who he was, and he changed many of the qualities that people liked about him.

Billy Idol on the other hand, aged well, probably matured in some ways, but kept the persona.

Bro, all I hear from you is "Larry made Prince do this, Larry made him do that". Can you actually provide one bit of proof that Larry Graham turned a wild, nasty, daring Prince into a god-fearing, humble, serious musician?

By the way, do you consider cussing a "quality"? I certainly don't. All I care about is the music.

It's not the cursing, but the attitude that we care about.

I was at an aftershow years back and not only did Prince play only two songs before giving the rest of the show to Larry, but he then went on to give a speech about how Larry got him to stop cursing, and how Larry was such blessing to him. So after paying to see several "Prince shows," I got a little tired of having Larry shoved down my throat and having to hear about how wonderful he was. It was like he was just a victim of a cult. Obviouly Prince himself was to blame for all this, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't dislike Larry for the freak that he is.
