Black Eyed Peas To Open For The Stones The Black Eyed Peas are slated to open for The Stones on their new U.S. tour. This is nothing new for the Stones, who has had a long history of having black acts open for them on their tours. Stevie Wonder, P, Living Colour, etc. I've always applouded the Stones for this. It's just one of their ways of giving back. Although I think Fergie has a good voice, I'm not crazy about the group. What are ya'll thoughts of them opening for the Stones? The Stones could have chosen better imo. The Black Eyed Peas were much better before they started having radio success. Now they're just another pop group.

It's not gonna work. If any hip-hop act is going to open up for the Stones, it should be The Roots, because they're musicians. The Peas are a hip-pop group who come off as corny (sorry dreamfactory313, that's the way I see it). The Stones' crowd is multi-generational and many if not most will go to the concert to get away from the very thing the Peas are bringing to the stage. If Stones fans booed Prince off the stage, then these cats better do "Let's Get It Started" and bounce quick. If you're talking black artists, then they should bring Stevie, Prince, Lenny, or someone of that caliber on tour with them. Hell, BB King, Charley Pride, someone, ANYONE else. I don't know about this.It could be a disaster for the Black Eyed Peas.I don't think there will be too many hip-hop fans in the audience.

For a long time, Jagger has tried to absorb funk/dance influences into his music and booking Black Eyed Peas is symptomatic of that, I feel.
Jagger needs to let go and realise that the table my PC is currently sitting on is funkier than his ass will ever be. Surely the Stones' audience would prefer a traditional rock or blues-rock type of band? Or why not make a package tour up and take some of their contemporaries out with them? Robert Plant and his band maybe?

Agreed. Look what happened to P's ass and he had quite a bit of rock in his sound. Of course him wearing drawers under his trench coat didn't help matters. Sadly to say, we haven't come too far since 81 regarding race relations. If nothing else, I think we have gone in reverse. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. You may be right, but whatever happens to the Black Eyed Peas will likely be due to their bad music and over-exposure (any exposure is over-exposure in this case). If I were one of those knuckleheaded Stones fans (of the 80's atleast) the Black Eyed Peas would be the kind of group I'd throw something at wherever they were performing. A true hip-hop crowd wouldn't like them either.

I'm convinced the only black artist that could open for the Stones and be guaranteed to get love would be BB King. Why? Because the Stones' audiences would dig the familiar bluesy sound of King, but they'd recoil at someone like Me'Shell or Prince or even Lenny who have a funkier sound. The Peas by comparison will be received as a joke. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Are the Peas really a "black group"? Is there a 50% rule or something?

That's crazy, I thought Kelis got love in the UK. It's not crazy when you think about it. Hendrix was a man without an audience until he hit overseas, as I understand it. Even at the height of his popularity in the 80's, Prince chose to tour in Europe primarily because of the love he got there. They loved Miles and other jazz artists in Paris. Many times, Americans -- of all races -- don't appreciate many artists the way we should. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

There was no way American labels would have signed Jimi at that point. He had to "make it" over there and make a "big splash" before the big wigs in the U.S. would take heed. P's management begged P to tour in Europe on the Purple Rain tour cuz they would have made a killing. France has a loooong love affair with black American musicians. Many would go to France not only because they could actually make a living doing music, but also they would avoid getting hung to death. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz.
