Biggest Selling Soundtracks In US History The thread started by TonyVanDam (with mad props to TVD, great thread!) about the 70's Icons got me thinking about sales records in general...
According to the website "Soundtrack Encyclopedia", here's the list of the eleven biggest selling soundtracks of all time! The best-selling soundtracks 1) The Bodyguard 1992 16 times platinum 2) Saturday Night Fever 1977 15 times 3) Purple Rain 1984 13 times 4) Forrest Gump 1994 12 times 5) (tie) Dirty Dancing 1987, Titanic 1997 11 times 6) The Lion King 1994 10 times 7) Top Gun 1986 9 times 8) (Tie) Grease 1978, Footloose 1984 8 times 9) Waiting to Exhale 1997 7 times What are your faves... what should be on there? What shouldn't be one there... talk amongst yourselves...  |

One of my fav's is Peter Gabriel's "Last Temptation of Christ" soundtrack. I was hoping that the East on NEWS would be like that, but no. | |

Anyone bought this:-
"kingdom of heaven" soundtrack? Some of it is gorgeous. And it is not Zimmer, which makes a change for ridley. I love the first 2 ninja turtles soundtracks. They got some fun house tunes on there like the awesome david morales and cathy dennis track "find the key to your life" and dan hartmans "(thats your) conciousness" Also "land before time" "american tale" "lion king" "black rain" (zimmer again) "oliver and co."  "rocky iv and v" etc.....I got loads.
"forest gump" is odd. Whole collecton of oldies tracks. Oh well.... Where is dirty dancing? I like "hungry eyes" and "shes like the wind". | |

I know "south pacific" "sound of music" etc.....sold more then "grease", but sales were not counted then. | |

Grease hasn't been recertified since the 80's. Its re-release version for the 20th anniversary of the movie has sold around 5 million copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan. Finally, some are missing there, such as The Sound Of Music. | |
