i think my biggest problem with scarlet's walk is that so many of the songs sound the same...to the point where they even end the same. pancake, mrs. jesus, crazy, a sorta fairytale, amber waves, your cloud, taxi ride, well actually every song except gold dust...they all end with the music stopping and tori lingering on a final word.

all in all the cd, for me, is just lacking any punch.

Yes, but it's nice for a lazy evening, no?

*scrapes throath*

I said TOMORROW, didn't I?

But no, we didn't meet her, I was sick, so stayed out off the horrid Dutch weather as long as we could.

Did I love it? I have seen her before. Quite disappointed with the rather timid performance. I told you I would be honest TOMORROW...

And now, cuz it is you, I need to shower! Not naked yet, but getting there!

hey Isten here. I'm probably to drunk to type coherently but hey, fuck it,
I will give it a try.

first up, let's just say that this was my first ever Tori show so I was a
bit hyper. Well, internally hyper lol.

so she came on, started "Original Sinsuality" and I was like "hmmm, ok. so
is it me, is it the sound at Ahoy stadium, or is she rather out of her ehm
usual good voice?". She just sounded a bit off. I don't know. She just did
not hit those beautiful clear notes that well.

anywho. the rest of the show just kind of simmered on slowly but never grew
into a real flame. there were moments though, like the back to back combo:
Northern Lad/Marianna which I thought was exquisite. and the surprisinly
cool rendition of "Rattlesnakes".

But all in all, the show just never took off and imo her choice of songs for
tonight was rather bland and uninspired. I don't know, maybe it was because
this was my first Tori live show but I was just a bit disappointed.

I think she was having a bit of a bad day herself as well since she hardly
ever adressed the crowd and completely left out her usual chitty chatter and
wisecracks. She only spoke twice, be it very briefly and rather ehm, pissed
off in a way. I don't know, she seemd preoccupied for some reason.

Nevertheless I thought the show was ok. I'm off my head on too much beer now
so probably tomorrow, after the initial let down has worn off I might be able
to appreciate it a bit more, but I doubt it.

To be honest, there were some good bits, but I never once got goosebumps or
any remotely emotional feelings. Nothern Lad is normally one of her MOST
emotional songs for me but in this setting and with this deliverance, it was
just a beautiful song, but did little to nothing for me.

sad

Sorry, but that's just the way I experienced it. Can't lie and say I liked it
very much. Anyway, I'll download the boots and see if I can appreciate it a
bit more that way, without the anticipation and stuff to bring down the mood
when she didn't play any b-sides or obscure coversongs lol.

more, and no doubt more coherent to follow tomorrow smile

bye

Apparently not everyone experienced the show that way:

From Matt Page and Richard G.:

It was a great show tonight, and Tori performed her written set list exactly. Her voice sounded good and the sound was amazing, especially considering the venue was an arena. There were a lot of strong feminine imagery in the songs chosen for tonight's set. Tori mentioned during the show that she has received a lot of requests for covers.

Richard added that he really enjoyed the covers this evening.

True. Other people would have loved the show. I just have to agree with lots of what Isten said. She seemed very detached.
Me not liking the covers is just me. I know other people enjoyed it lots. Same with Prince. Some people thought the Bataclan show just so-so. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

She only spoke twice. First to tell us something about Holland being the number one countries when it comes to feminism (that's where Matt and Richard's remark stems from) but I disagree with her. It certainly coloured her choices for songs.

Second was before the Piano Bar songs. She said something like; "Well, people actually chose some good songs. I don't have to play them though, cuz I am a bitch."

Then she plays two of the most bland choices for covers she could make... rolleyes Of all the Joni Mitchell songs she plays the one she played a hundred times before and the DM song was, well, in my opinion uninspired and tediously long and repetitive. I'd rather she'd play Little Green and Halo (or Blue Dress).

Maybe I was a bit too hyped
