I bet she makes the next round of US shows a lot different than the first time around. And with you going to like 97 shows, I'm sure you'll have plenty to be jealous of.

I've loved them ever since I gave "Scarlet's Walk" a chance. When I listened to that album as a whole, I got lost. But I would focus on one or two songs at a time and play them on repeat until I grew familiar with them. Now I love nearly everything on there.

Funny story about Morrissey from her Manchester show...
Morrissey doesn't get the Tori vote Dianne Bourne Tori Amos MANC legend Morrissey can be assured he's crossed off Tori Amos's Christmas card list. Piano-playing Tori launched a startling rant against Mozzer at her Manchester Apollo gig on Sunday night. It all came about after she told her audience she would be playing a "legendary Mancunian tune". Cue calls from the crowd to belt out a Smiths' number. But Tori came back with the response: "I don't like Morrissey, and I'll tell you why." She went on to recount the story of how many years ago they had both been appearing on a TV show. "Afterwards I walked past him in the corridor, and said, `Hey, great songs man'. And he turned to me and said: `What the **** do you know?'" What Tori said next can't be repeated, but there was much stamping of feet. The "legendary tune" she had meant was Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger, but it seems Tori is still angry , as she personalised the lyrics with: "You ain't ever gonna tear my heart out, Morrissey."

I went back to "Scarlet's Walk" last monday as a bit of a preparation for the concert and I was surprised at the fact that I didn't feel the need to skip any songs and was quite enjoying them. I think it's safe to say now that Scarlet is starting to become one of my fav Tori albums. Still no sign of Houston on the tour list! She'd better play my request when she comes here...or else I'll...uh...I won't listen to her stuff! For like a week!...Okay, a few days!...Err, okay, maybe for 24 hours! Oh, hell, who am I kidding? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

It's so complex and irreducible. Definitely not an instant gratification thing. Sometimes I play her albums for the first time, and I literally feel like I can't even hear them until about the tenth round. And even then I get lost inside them...disorienting, scary, and magical. Something to come back to again and again.

Along with Pele, Choirgirl, Venus, Earthquakes, Pink and all the bsides i think my biggest problem with scarlet's walk is that so many of the songs sound the same...to the point where they even end the same. pancake, mrs. jesus, crazy, a sorta fairytale, amber waves, your cloud, taxi ride, well actually every song except gold dust...they all end with the music stopping and tori lingering on a final word. all in all the cd, for me, is just lacking any punch.
