EXACTLY. Just because the industry isn't serving up rock as a vital entity doesn't mean it's dead. There are lots of killer bands out there and lots of killer guitar players as well. They're just not so marketable right now. And if there was one true saviour of the guitar in the current era it's a name no-one has mentioned yet: Nels Cline. There are very few on his level these days, with a full encompassing knowledge of the past and taking it in a firm direction for the future. But really, great bands and great guitar players are all around you. Just don't look to MTV or Rolling Stone or any other major entity to bring them to you. stormbringer No Sonny T?

They're it for me right now as far as current rock goes. It's so bad I was rooting for Bo Bice, thinking it might inspire someone creative & talented (like myself?) Check this song out at:

The new Stripes CD is really good. It goes in some directions you wouldn't expect, as well. Jack White sounds like he may be on the verge of his 'Prince 82-88" period or something. I think the cat is scary talented.

franz ferdinand bloc party the others kaiser chiefs maximo park the hives the libertines plenty guitar jangling !!! [Edited 5/18/05 16:21pm] Yeah, there's PLENTY of good rock right now, it's just not connecting on the charts so much, but who really cares (except maybe the bands!) To this list, I'd add Sleater Kinney (whose newest is a litte raw for my tastes, but pretty damn rocking) and especially the amazing Hold Steady album, "Separation Sunday" Mark my words, the next 2 years of rock will be very "classic rock" oriented.

If it were not for Queens of the Stone Age, Mars Volta, Green Day, Weezer and the Kings of Leon, I might have a reply
