Artists who never bettered their debutrecord.... While listening to Little Eearthquakes from Tori Amos, i am thinkingNic, hey, there are quit a lot of major artists who are busy in the musicbussines for quite some time but never bettered the quality of their debutrecord. Some new artists deliver such a buzz because of the magic and quality of their debutrecord, but after that never seem to reach that hights again.
Right now i am thinking about the following artists / records: - Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes - Lenny Kravitz - Let love rule - The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses - Living colour - Vivid - Pearl Jam - Ten - Rage against the machine - Rage against the Machine - Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left You have any other examples? (or you disagree, with my view, thats possible of course...lol)

Having said that, Alanis Morrisette comes to mind. Other then Jagged Little Pill, all her cd's have sucked.

d'angelo Sorry, but I completely disagree. TTD and D both had great cd's after there debut. Voodoo is better than Brown Sugar IMO.

I find Voodoo so much more sophisticated than Brown Sugar.

It might not be commercialy sound but it's an album unlike any other, taking you from one end of the spectrum right through to the other. breaking you, hurting you, healing you, loving and consoling you all in one journey. Little Earthquakes had a bigger impact but "Boys For Pele" is her masterpiece. sorry, i'm done now. just passing thru and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

annie lennox (solo). 'medusa' and 'bare' have their virtues, but they don't even come anywhere close to touching 'diva'.

I think Bare is her best record. i think 'bare' is far more honest and emotionally rich than 'medusa', right down to the way it was produced, but i also think 'diva' is the full package - there's so much variety and range on that album, yet it manages to remain consistent and focused.

Haven't really listened to them beyond that single. The thread appears to be asking two different questions. 1) "never bettered the quality of their debutrecord" (quality of product) 2) "never seem to reach that hights again" (popularity of product) 'Til Tuesday may have satisfied condition 1 but not 2. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
