Tori Amos and Led Zeppelin

I think they're two peas in a pod. Comments?

Also, if Tori does a Led Zeppelin cover, what should it be?

And if Led Zeppelin did a Tori Amos cover... omfg

Tori and Robert Plante covered "Down By the Seaside" for the Encomium album.

I haven't heard those covers, but I thought maybe she had done something. Methinks, I'd rather hear her do something like Going to California rather than Whole Lotta Love.

As for Led Zepplin doing a Tori cover, it'd be groovy to hear 'em fuck with "Take to the Sky".

But isn't it true? Aren't they two peas in a pod? Or aesthetically related somehow? All those flowery lyrics and high states. If someone could measure levels of consciousness, wouldn't they be on the same plane?

Maybe I am on something weed

I think Jimmy Paige was her favorite growing up. And she said that she always looked to guitar players rather than other piano players for inspiration. There are some funny quotes from her book about a discussion she had with Robert Plant. I'll see if I can suss 'em.

I've never gotten into Tori. At least not yet. Maybe I will one day, I just don't know where to start. I do know that Robert Plant asked her to marry him at some point though. lol And she said something once like, "My girlfriends used and I used to put on Zeppelin albums and masturbate to them" or something like that. falloff

But Led Zeppelin could never do a Tori cover because there is no Zeppelin anymore. Unless Bonzo comes back from the dead or something.

Start with Little Earthquakes or Under the Pink. If you like 'em, go from there. wink

Or how about going straight for The Beekeeper? That one seems the most Zeppelinesque to me.

I would say that the first two albums plus The Beekeeper are the most classic Tori. If you like those, it's pretty safe to say you're gonna like her.

lol Funny how Tori fans say they can't hear Kate's influence in her work and yet claim she has similarities with Zeppelin.

Tori & Zeppelin sound NOTHING like each other. What is this? Crackheads united or something? lol

Tori did a great version of "Thank You" on the Crucify ep.

I am a crackhead for sure, but I still haven't heard Tori much, so I can't say if there are similarities between the two. biggrin

The only song of hers that sounds anything like Zeppelin (to me, at least) is the original album version of Professional Widow.
I really don't hear it anywhere else. shrug

It's not so much the overall sound, but the lyrics and her vocalization techniques are reminiscient. Some use of reverb and that reaching for the heavens quality. But there is one particular song with this jingly background instrumental that is straight out of Zeppelin, you might agree. I'll have to figure out which song that is.

A while ago, Tori was in belgium doing a song for 'De Laatste Show', I was working there at the time, and I wore my Led Zeppelin shirt. And yes, she gave it a quick stare! smile I noticed it.

Tori was very friendly and kind.

I don't hear the similarities to Zepplin or Kate. I was just pointing out that she's said on numerous occasions that she was influenced by them. I think Tori sounds like Tori. Especially after hearing Kate now.

I do too! It's gotten to the point though where I'm obssessed with listening for the influences of others, and find it hard to just listen to the band for what they are. lol

Tori is VERY influenced by Zepplin. She has spoken on numerous occassions how much the boys meant to her growing up. She struck up a friendship with Mr Plant in the mid-nineties, which HE said led to HIM being influenced by her (when I saw Page/Plant in '95, he talked about Tori in concert. I think I was the only one in the auditorium cheering when he mentioned her). More than anything, I think Tori's vocal stylings are Plant-influenced (particularly when she does that sexy wailing on stage. Tori-philes know what I'm talking about).

Tori has covered Zep on the "Crucify" maxi-single ("Thank You") and dueted with Plant on the Encomnium tribute CD (doing a cover of "Down By The Seaside"). She has also covered "Whole Lotta Love" in concert (it's quite sexy).
