Nearing the home stretch. My partner is going to KILL me, heh. He's been dealing with my current Bowie obsession like a trouper. (I hope he realizes that these 6 CDs are likely to be the primary soundtrack to our upcoming trip to Maine, which will entail alot of driving, hehe.)
A couple notes on this one - - I don't have the single edit for Heaven's In Here, or else I probably would have worked it on instead of You've Been Around or Baby Universal. I Can't Read (the ice storm version) is out of place chronologically but it has to be there for mix flow purposes Last songs cut: Heaven's In Here and No Control. I even managed to restrain myself and leave off I Have Not Been to Oxford Town, one of my all-time faves. But really I couldn't justify including it, alas I would also have loved to include Dead Against It and The Wedding Song. And Pallas Athena. 17 tracks, fits snugly at 77:15. All album versions. (i'm a slacker at single edits during this period.) Oh and yeah, i had to leave off black tie white noise. I know I'm committing revisionist history on this collection - but is it true that if I pretend Memory of a Free Festival, Day In Day Out and Black Tie White Noise don't exist, then maybe they'll go away?? 1.Under the God 2.Prisoner of Love 3.Pretty Pink Rose 4.One Shot 5.You Belong In Rock 'n' Roll 6.Baby Universal 7.Real Cool World 8.Jump They Say 9.Night Flights 10.You've Been Around 11.Miracle Goodnight 12.Buddha of Suburbia 13.I Can't Read 14.The Heart's Filthy Lesson 15.Hallo Spaceboy 16.I'm Deranged 17.Strangers When We Meet

You don't like that song? for some reason i have always hated that song... those 3 that i mentioned are by far my least fave bowie singles. well, and add Underground to that list, as well. When doing compilations, i usually pretend they were never released. LOL. I know, i'm bad.

That was the first Bowie album I bought and one of the reasons I bought it. What do you hate so much about it? And the Part 1 of "Memory of a Free Festival" makes it much more tolerable, I find.

I tend to refuse to admit that it even exists. maybe i should give it a fresh listen.

These Bowie compilation threads are GREAT ~ I'm learning so much (mainly how much territory I still have to travel through when I start my serious Bowie listening in about a month). Thank you JonSnow and Tron (or is it Gangsta?) and everyone who's been contributing such delicious information!!!!

You have a lot of the puzzle pieces. But a good compilation certainly helps you put them together. I might have to hook you up.

Amazing thread to read. I am not a big fan of Bowie, more of an admirer, but sometimes it just takes some Orger's enthousiasm to be intrigued...
Where can I order these discs, LoL

Hehehe I stil discover and rediscover stuff about many artists every day. Noepie made two amazing MD's for me... LoL Again, where can I order these discs? (I am off to the shower now... how do you do that?)

Okay, outa the shower.
Let's see. Bowie. I grew up with 80's Bowie, which was my main introduction to him, even though the song Sound And Vision was imprinted on my soul earlier, when still a child. That song still has the power to transport me back into time immediately. Sound And Vision made me purchase Low, an album I took to in extreme ways. It kind of spoiled me in some ways. The album is SUCH a fixture for me, I think lots of his older work, in my ears, often sound manky. This is why I was urging you to take on Kate Bush from the start, not the middle, it takes some more effort to penetrate their musical journey. The exact reason I am not a BIG fan is self-protection, I guess. If I have ONE other artist to be completist, I am afraid I might have to change my name to Renner. LoL My computer, which is my main musical playback instrument, is FILLED with music. I am close to filing away ALL my Prince music and use the space on the drives to get new music to get into... whaddayathink?

question: is Bowie the best ever?
I'm working on Disc 6 and it ocurred to me that you can make a REALLY strong case for Bowie being the most important figure in rock. Who else has done what he has over 40 years, in terms of sheer music output, and influence is so many different areas? I think Bowie sometimes gets unfairly overshadowed by Lennon and Dylan. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE both of them, but... is Bowie the best of them all?
