Every album, every song was hot. Great music!!!!

Goody Two Shoes

Adam ant/marco pirroni

With the heartbreak open
So much you can't hide
Put on a little make-up, make-up
Make sure they get your good, side good side

If the words unspoken
Get stuck in your throat
Send a treasure token, token
Write it on a pound note, pound note

Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes
Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
You don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

We don't follow fashion
That would be a joke
You know we're gonna set them, set them
So everyone can take note, take note

When they saw you kneeling
Crying words that you mean
Opening their eyeballs, eyeballs
Pretending that you're Al Green, Al Green

Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes
Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
You don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
Must be something inside

No one's gonna tell me
What's wrong or what's right
Or tell me who to eat with, sleep with
Or that I've won the big fight, big fight

Look out or they'll tell you
You're a "Superstar"
Two weeks and you're an all time legend
I think the games have gone much too far

If the words unspoken
Get stuck in your throat
Send a treasure token, token
Write it on a pound note, pound note

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
You don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
Must be something inside (he's hiding)

At the same time i was just getting into MJ, Adam and the Ants ruled my world. 'Dirk wears white sox' was the first album my parents bought me for my birthday. I actually wanted his new one (at the time) 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier'. These two are his best IMO, the latter in later years was deemed his sell-out album as it appeared he'd dropped his punk persona and chased the teen market. I think that was unfair, he still sounded raw and wildly different than anyone else about at the time.

I think it was his usage of video that got him tagged as a sellout, they had stories and guest stars (if you were in the UK) I credit Adam for furthering video as an artform before MJ. Like MJ, (in the UK at least) a new Adam Ant video was an event. The guy was that huge for about 3 years.

i abondoned 'antmusic' after 'Strip', by then i felt he was out of ideas, i'd moved on to Prince (who i do see a lot of Adam in). i bought the 'antbox' that came out a few years back. Reminded me that he was indeed a great act. Lots of humour (listen to A.N.T.S. his version of The Village People's Y.M.C.A. and not raise a smile lol ), and deserved better than to end up as ill as he is (and as bald!)

Love the guy.

thumbs up!

Apparently, Adam and Prince were mutual admirers of one another back in the day. Prince was influenced (so the story goes) by a New Romantics party he attended in Europe, most especially digging Adam's style. Similarly, Ant really enjoyed the sounds P was doing circa Controversy, 1999 and Purple Rain.

Of course, they never worked together, but Ant did get Andre Cymone to produce his Manners & Physique album (which was pretty much proof that Prince didn't rip Andre off like he had claimed. Andre simply doesn't have the talent P does).

Oh, I must state here that I think Adam Ant had one helluva great style about him, and he was definitely a pioneer of the New Romantic and video movements. His blending of unique music and visuals was definitely ahead of its time.

Seems pretty clear that Manners & Physique was an attempt at a "Prince" album. It was Adam's downfall that he was more concerned with achieving a certain type of image than making interesting music by this time.

I didn't hear it in when it came out, but now it sounds like one of the most dated albums I've ever heard. Like they used every 80's pop cliche available.

Compare this to Batman which came out the same year. Not my favorite album, but it sounds unique. It doesn't sound particularly dated, it sounds like Prince. Manners & Physique completely buries Adam's personality & style.

But could you say the same thing about "Wonderful"? I think he was approaching more of an Adult Contemporary/Alternative style there.

I would DEFINTELY say that "Wonderful" was an attempt to get back onto mainstream radio in the US. It was designed for radio stations with the "mix" format.

I've only heard that song from the album, but it's better than anything on Manners & Physique except maybe You Can't Set Rules About Love. You may be right, but that AC style was less embarassing to hear IMO.
