Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont speaks about the New Madonna Project

from DrownedMadonna.com

During his Australian Tour , last february , Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont talked with The Herald Sun , about his current works with Madonna. Here is part of the interview featured in The Melbourne Hit section.

He has Madonna on his speed dial and a day job in her band, and New Order liked his take on their trademark sound so much they hired him to work on their new album. Yes, life is good when you are Jacques Lu Cont. .....

Price was recruited by Madonna to play guitar and all-important keyboards on her Drowned World and Reinvention world tours. Madonna reinvented some of her biggest hits for the latter, and Price wore a huge grin for most of it.

``It's hard not to have a ball when you're standing on stage in a kilt hitting a drum next to Madonna,'' he says. ``That tour was an amazing opportunity to play that kind of music to that many people. Even if you're responsible for making only 20 per cent of it have a lot of dance music integrity, you're doing something right.''

This year Price is no longer just the hired help on tour: he's started writing songs with Madonna for her new album. He's coy when asked about the direction in which Madonna will head after the lukewarm reaction to her American Life record.

``We don't actually talk about other people she's working with,'' he says, but hints she may be embracing the '80s dance pop he makes.

``Stylistically I'm certainly not doing anything I wouldn't normally do.''

He's quick to praise his boss and her often-ignored musical prowess. ``She's brilliant to work with. She often doesn't get credit for the fact she's an amazing producer. She'll carry her vision right through from beginning to end without ever dithering or losing sight of what's going on.
``The one thing you'll never hear Madonna say is, `Hmm, I don't really know what to do'. She always knows where she wants to take things and she'll push you until she gets it. She's an amazing musician.''

i listen to his 'darkdancer' album quite a bit - he has the grimiest, most plastic, most painfully delicious aspects of cheesy '80s dance music NAILED, and i shamelessly love it. the irony of him working with madonna is, of course, that the music he makes now sounds like a tongue-in-cheek attempt to re-create the kind of music madonna was known for when she first came on the scene. maybe this will be a return to the sound of her first album! maybe she's having a mid-life crisis! maybe she'll dress like baby jane on the album cover! woot!

He is not the first person to say that about her being a producer.

Madonna is a very underrated produced. She still suffers from what I call the "Like a virgin stigma"! She's viewed by lot of folks as being a britney type of artist.

Madonna is in my opinion an incredible musician and maybe the best pop music composer ever (Burning up anyone wink )

now i have 2 go to the kabalah center and get my fees wink lol

I love AL and the songs from AL were the Highlight of the RIT. Can anyone say Nobody Knows Me... or Mother and Father/Intervention. those songs rocked.

i think people didn't know what to think to here such a mellow stripped down album from her.

I agree.I was getting excited at the prospect of a rock album from her.She should just say "Fuck it" and make a loud, aggressive rock album with hard beats and lots of guitar! I love 'American Life' but now I want something harder, louder and wild. She will probably alientate some of her dance music fans (who want her to do the same thing everytime),but so what?

I honestly think it was brilliant.
Poorly marketed though, with the anti war video and the cover art. It was seen as an anti-war anti-American album, when the only thing anti-war was the original video.

The album itself has nothing to do with war or America.

Same with the Erotica album, it was seen as a sex album before anyone bothered to listen...

You bring up a good point.Sometimes the pre-release controversy that ususally surrounds a new Madonna album backfires.Hopefully, there won't be any distractions with the new album.Don't get me wrong....I like the controversy and I think the "American Life" video is brilliant, but maybe she should play it safe this time around (no violent, inflammatory videos...no big political statements, etc).

U are correct!

American life has a strip-dow sound...It's like madonna showing to the world her soul, especially her fears and it celebrates family...

Hell...all of madonna's album since like a prayer have been deeply personnal. That's why she transcend the normal pop realm...

That's exactly how i felt when listening to American Life.

In the long run i know Madonna doesn't regret the lack of care people gave to American Life, as she knows she put her all into it.

Well
It certainly brought her to the front of the media again. The whole week after it was non-stop talk about the kiss...

But instead of something revolutionary, it became seen as a desperate attempt for attention.

Oh i certainly didn't mind it at all. I didn't even blink an eye when i first saw it. Only Madonna fans weren't absolutely outraged by it.

I see no issues with 2 women kissing anyways, apparently american media does.

The issue to me is how contrived it clearly was. It had nothing to do with homosexuality, it fact I thought it was insulting to lesbians maybe even the broader gay community. The whole thing was really pathetic
