SPYZFAN1 said: Hardcore Jollies is a masterpiece. My friends and I used to argue over who did the lead solo on "Comin' Round The Mountain". I swore up and down it was Eddie, and he swore it was Mike Hampton. I was happy once "Rest In P" came out and had the extended jam of that song. It shut him up REAL quick (lol). "Smokey" shows the Curtis Mayfield influence to a whole new level. And like black guitarist, P-Funk and KISS were my 2 favorite bands back in the day too.
U know, the solo to "Comin' Round The Mountain" is somewhat vague in style. I've noticed that. If u just listen to it, it COULD sound like Mike Hampton. When I knew it was Hazel, was when I learned to play it. I knew, by the vibrato and by some of the phrasing, that it was Eddie. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. You can play that solo note for note??!!..You da' man Black!! (lol) Yeah Eddie's tone on that song is so sweet and aggresive at the same time. Lord knows I've tried to get my Strats to cook like that and I can't even come close. And even though Mike's tone is a little thin on Jollies "Cosmic Slop", it just kills me every time he kicks in that lead in the intro. And when Garry Shider kicks in, LAWD HAVE MERCY!!! (lol) I told Garry years ago that him and the P-Funk cats took over as my guitar teachers once I stopped formal lessons. (lol)..he liked hearing that!

Yeah, I know Mike is a very good guitarist, but...it's something about his style that, I don't know. I understand George having him, because Mike's "tone" was definately upgading the sound. Overall, he has a little too much "treble'in his tone for me and some of his licks are kinda "Zappaish", if that makes any sense. I love Zappa by the way, just not from Mike. I hear ya' Black. I noticed that George and Mike seem to have this "love-hate" relationship going on. Last time I saw P, Mike started out doing his "MaggotBrain" licks, then started into jamming "Red Hot Mama". George decided to change the list w/out telling anyone and turned Mike's amp off. (lol)..Mike got REALLY pissed, he unplugged his guitar and left the stage (and the building, never to return-lol). I guess that's why Mike is "moody" sometimes onstage. But he's still my boy.
