Z Cult Favorite - You Scared The Lovin Outta Me/Funkadelic "You Scared The Lovin Outta Me" by Funkadelic. For all of the true funksters out there, can any of ya'll wrap your minds around this? Is this song a trip or what? Man, I remember when I was little, my older cousin used to play the "Hardcore Jollies" album to death. Well, whenever it got to this song, I would get kinda scared cuz that beginning is some ghoulish sounding shit. Hell, the whole song is. But, I dug it in a weird way just the same. As I got older, it's become one of my faves from Funkadelic. Who else here likes this very strange but cool song? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

These verse's are cold:
I thought I knew all there is to do I stuck out my chest and dove into a love With ego in charge, I charged into what seemed be the quickest way into manhood. Eat this for me and from a tiny tree, she plucked a fruit and placed it on her navel. I was no freak, but I was getting weak I took the quickest way into her womanhood. Other than George Clinton, who else can write lyrics like that???? My favorite on that album is "Smokey" Bernie's key's at its best..... The singing arrangements just blows me away each time I listen to it.... You're on it Black!!!

Ok fellas, its time for Ms Legs to give her on this Funk. Now, this cut had to be one of the most profound cuts that George and the crew has come up with up especially the part about: "getting weak I took the quickest way into her womanhood." Now, that is some deep shit. Hell, after thinking about it makes me want to quote a verse from one of his other cuts. Damn! "How About Some Doobie In Your Funk?"

Hmmm, don't think I ever heard this one ... PSYCH!!!
Actually, when I first heard this album when it came out it was mostly too intense for me. It took me a couple of years to really start getting into it. The first cuts I really dug were Comin' Round the Mountain, Smokey, Hardcore Jollies and Cosmic Slop (did you know this version is from the Newberg Session P-Funk rehearsal session album -- THAT album is one of my all-time favorites!). Over the years, I have come to appreciate everything on the album. It has unjustly been referred to filler as because George was splitting the good stuff between this, his first Warner Bros. album, and Tales of Kidd Funkadelic, his final Westbound release. They both came out around the same time in 1976. I have always liked Hardcore Jollies the best between the two, but Tales has grown on me as well over the years. PEEEACE! Scott If you've got funk, you've got style.

Scott Yeah, as a kid, I LOVED "Tales of Kidd Funkadelic". I loved the album cover. Another bite from KISS. Look at the backside of the cover when the "baby" transforms from wearing a diaper to the Gene Simmons outfit! Anyway, I also dug "Hardcore Jollies" as well, but differently. As a kid, I loved "Comin Round The Mountain'. I liked that song the best, followed by the live version of "Cosmic Slop". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. this track is another example of how deep Funkadelic was --- when I first heard this stuff, I was too young to grasp any of it , I just knew it was some spooky shit, but even back then I was hooked--it's amazing how many layers their stuff has--it plugs into something deep inside you, it's the kind of stuff that draws you in, whether you're ready or not...

Hardcore Jollies is a masterpiece. My friends and I used to argue over who did the lead solo on "Comin' Round The Mountain". I swore up and down it was Eddie, and he swore it was Mike Hampton. I was happy once "Rest In P" came out and had the extended jam of that song. It shut him up REAL quick (lol). "Smokey" shows the Curtis Mayfield influence to a whole new level. And like black guitarist, P-Funk and KISS were my 2 favorite bands back in the day too.
