"Artists" you can't believe haven't been dropped by their label yet. Why is Daniel Beddingfield still being allowed to release music?
It was a crime when he was in the first place, but now no-one's buying it, why hasn't he been dropped? I don't usually harbour ill-feeling towards famous people but I think we can make an exception on this guy. [Edited 4/26/05 0:39am]

i thought he already had been after the ultimate collection Why would any label drop Michael Jackson? all his records sell millions. and Daniel Bendingfield had a really succesfull first album. His labl will drop him if his third album tanks. I was really suprised how long Maverick kept Meshell on their label. She is one of my favourite artists ever but her album didn't sell but Maverick kept releasing her music.. I wish more labels were as concern with building an artists career, as result Maverick has one of the best backcatolgues in Meshell.

The MJ thing is intersting. I have no idea if he owes sony any more recordings. I read in a book published a few years ago saying mike still owed them a greatest hits and then a box set. This book was written years ago and so far that is all true. So I think he is free to go.
Someone as shrewd as jacko should be dropping an album during the trial. Iam surprised he didn't use this advantage.

I actually can't think of anyone who isn't selling that is still on a label. Seems like alot of people were dropped during the label mergers and the major label rosters are already really small.

he got £ 80 million he is no way worth that guy chambers wrote all his hit songs 80! Oh yeah I forgot it was that much. Michaels mega deal wasn't that much more. And mike always had the worldwide sales then. I bet robbie didn't even ask for that much, knowing his cheeky self. Yeah, robbies recent stuff has been piss poor power ballads.

The robbie Williams deal was for 4 albums, 1 greates hits and 3 world tours, EMI are making there money off Robbie's tours, They are prodcuing and taking a huge profit of his tours.

Why....! Khan!!!!!
What I did say the first time was that why is it a big deal that Beddingfield is still releasing music in Europe...didn't the first album sell well there? Stevie Wonder should drop himself. I wrote this great post and it's gone but let me try to remember what I said. Stevie, Motown has been great to you in the sixities(?), seventies and possibly, just possibly eighties (although was it your idea to release "Upset Stomach" on "Berry Gordon's Last Dragon"...not a bad track, but come on!). It's time to move on, with the new album in hand to a company that will release it and do a good promotional job. All they've been doing for the past so many years is releasing your material in different discs (a boxed set, then a double disc, than a single disc collection and just to narrow it down a little more...a "20th Century" set). Dare I say because he can't actually see that he is prehaps blind to this? I think artists like Cher see it, but turn a blind eye and realize it's money in the bank. Wonder what Stevie thinks?

But making money off an artists tours is not common for labels, right? That's usually their money and in fact, I've noticed that they tend to sometimes release the actual videos on what appear to be indie companies (I know Janet's last two where on what seemed like a small company).

And Maverick didn't dump Alanis too quickly either To comment on Me'shell, I think they realize she isn't and may never be a bigger seller but the potenial for a hit is there and they realize she has a loyal audience which probably grows from word of mouth (hell, I'm becoming more and more interested). She's an artists that will continue to make albums that are accepted by critics and will sell not gangbusters but well enough. With Alanis, I'm not sure? I think they figured "Supposed..." was just a sophmore slump but probably sold well. I have an idea the sales keep doing down for each disc...maybe as much as half for each? I doubt the last one sold...I bet that many people knew about it. Her third at least had a big memorable single..the last really didn't (she was, unfornately, competeing with the people she inspired like Avril). Alanis might not sell what she used to but the fact that she appears on soundtracks and releases in between projects ("Unplugged" and "Feast on Scraps") probaly doesn't hurt the cash flow. She still is probably their biggest (possibly only?) money maker.

BJORK ALANIS MORISETTE MICHAEL BOLTON(yes he had a new album out) BRYAN ADAMS RICHARD MARX NICK CARTER(OF BSB FAME) AVRIL LAVIGNE Avril Lavigne? You're just angry....but I understand. Richard Marx is on an indie (Capitol gave him a few more shots in the ninties, though but his last two where released on small labels), but shockingly, Bryan Adams isn't (his last CD came out a while ago in Europe and comes out here soon...but it's going to be released on Mercury Nashville?). Nick Carter is probably dropped as a solo artist. I don't think they'll make that same mistake twice (and at this rate, I don't see that somewhat hyped Backstreet reunion coming out anytime soon..are they on tour?). They are giving JC another shot, which kind of makes sense because he had a lot of postive hype and the few people that bought the album really seemed to enjoy it.

Avril Lavigne sells a lot of records believe it or not, so she wouldn't be dropped yet.
