1995, Lets name our favorites, and cant stand it's

one song at a time:

U Learn - Alanis Morisette headbang
She just came out of nowhere, and this was the jam that made me really fall in love with those 5 (?) singles off that record.

Hated it: rolleyes

California Love - 2Pac & Dr. Dre ill
I understood how some people liked this song but once I heard it I said to myself "i know im going to keep hearing this fucking song for the rest of the year!!!" sad
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

One of my fav years!

Since you covered Alanis....I'll go with

SMASHING PUMPKINS-'Bullet With Butterfly Wings'
This song was the first track from the Pumpkin's epic..MELLON COLLIE AND THE INFINITE SADNESS...With the first line...'The World Is a Vampire...' Billy and Co. roar through this monster track with such vengance and created a video that captured the same! This would be the first of many hits of MELLON COLLIE...and officially marked the Pumpkin's as a truly great rock band and a must have for any 90's freak.

In the Could'nt Stand department....gotta go with

MONTELL JORDAN-'This Is How We Do It'
I gotta admit...the songs catchy and the beat was bumpin...but the song was overplayed and then it was overplayed even more....it was everywhere to the point that it drove me insane.

Ahhh...'95...a great year....

peace

prince - the gold experience
bowie - outside
pj harvey - to bring you my love
tricky - maxinquaye

and, oh holy crap, tons of other stuff i can't even begin to remember right now. 1995 was an incredible year for me. it was my first year of living in new york city, and i was living, eating, breathing, screwing, drinking and smoking all things east village-related. i was obsessed with east village gay bar jukeboxes, because i was getting an education from them. i was learning about glam and NYC punk and just the whole asthetic of the village when it was alive and funky and had it going on. i can't remember that year in terms of albums, because i was too busy living. music manifests more as a feeling than something with track lists and jewel boxes.

Tindersticks' second album - a great piece of Nick Drake style miserablism.

Scott Walker's Tilt - semi-retired 60 teen idol came back to make one of the weirdest albums ever released. Frank Sinatra fronting Einsterzende Neubaten produced by Music for Airports era Eno is the only way I can describe it.

Yo La Tengo - enjoyable music from the most reliably consistent American indie-rock band.

And this was the year of Maxinquaye, of course. I don't really listen to that album much these days, but boy did I love it at the time.

i think i'll feel that kind of joy again in my life, only it will be due to completely different circumstances that i can have no idea about right now. i think if a person is capable of experiencing long stretches of happiness, they have the power to experience it again when all the pieces fall into place.

nod The 90's were a good thing especially on the club scene. Music didn't suck as much as it does now. Back then, House music was really starting to pump hard everywhere.

I've had that since. 2002 and 2003 were particularly big years for me.

But there was something about being 17-21 that was so special and so formative. I really became aware of who I was and what I stood for. I knew who my friends were and had some of the best times of my life. The grind of time and experience and responsibility hadn't gotten to me yet. It's not that I want to go back to that time. I still had a lot of growing up to do. But I miss that feeling of endless possibility and having my whole life ahead of me.

I don't remember buying too much of anything in 1995 except for Prince's "The Gold Experience". 1995 was getting pretty close to the end of the road for me listening to current music. I can't really remember too much coming out that year that was worth a damn.

Actually, at the time, I was listening to stuff that had spilled over to 1995 from 1994 like Dis N Dat, 95 South, 69 Boyz, Luke, 20 Fingers, etc. and some underground house music. Unlike the 1980s, in the 1990s, a song would go on for a few years, where in the 1980s, it would go on for a few months and something else good would come out. Hell, back in 1995, "Whomp There It Is" and "Daizey Dukes" were still getting regular airplay and they had been out for a few years.

In 1996, I bought Quad City DJs' "Come On Ride The Train", 2 Live Crew's "Hoochie Mama", Diana Ross' "Take Me Higher" and a few simalar things like that. Soon after that, I gave up on current music because midtempo had completely taken over the mainstream and techno was starting to take over the underground house music.

I like 69 boyz, quiad city dj's 95 south etc, didn't know 2 live crew were still made albums then. Of course i got into them later.....remember k7? "Come baby come" and "hi di ho"? I think they were 1995? Yeah mid tempo was in full effect. Last swing might of been heard in early 1994 at the very latest. Thank Dre for the midtempo.

Soul for real" Candy rain" and "every little thing you do" are cool as was the tony rich song "nobody knows". Gorgeous song. I think they were 1995?

(I bought "whoop! There it is".....I gotta find that stupid song again biggrin )

Yeah 93-97 were my Highschool years too, great time for music. How could I forget these jams from 95:

Doin It - LL Cool J - I remember they would play the moanless version during the day but play the moaning version at night on the radio.

I like the Fugees.

And I wasn't talking about purely the music that was coming out at the time. More of how it relates to my memories of that period.

Oh My! I thought I was the only one who thought the 90's were it. Maybe because I came to age...I'm turning 30 this year (in 2 weeks) and I remember '95 turning 20 and working at my first record store....it was such a great year...and I met alot of new people that year and really expanded my horizons personally, mentally, and musically....I'm hoping the turning 30 will bring on some of the same awakenings of sorts. I've been living in a shell for the last year or so...and I'm ready to just jump out of it and live life....I'm turning 30 and PROUD!!!!

Speaking of 1995....do you all remember the much media-hyped 'DIVA PILE UP'...in the fall of '95..within weeks of each other...the 4 Grand Pop Divas released projects....they were...

MARIAH CAREY-Daydream
JANET-Design of a Decade
MADONNA-Something To Remember
WHITNEY-Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack

Ahh....Divas, Pumpkins, Alanis, PJ Harvey, 'Friends'...it was a great year

peace
