It amazes me how much we "who love music" talk about a Rating system that has nothing to do with "Loving Music". The latest buzz is over Mariah selling 400,000 + units. Ok, so whats the big deal. I mean I love Mariah but this isnt a measure of a good record, I mean I am already tired of this CD and its only been two weeks, I basically listen to 3-4 songs on it. But Im not here to pick on Mariah, Im just talking aobut a system that "SHOULD" have no bearing on peoples taste, but I work in music retail and I see it all the time that People just buy what everyone else is buying, everyone is so afraid to take a chance, from the consumer, to the Video stations, to the radio stations, No one takes a chance anymore. I long for the days when a song or an album used to climb the charts, Now everybodys "shit" debuts at Number 1 and then falls until the next big HYPE comes around. Just a small note, the numbers are as real as the artists themselves.

I sure as hell don't.

Every year a cd just sells sooooo many copies that people who don't usually bother buying music then buy their 1 album a year on the biggest seller. Coffee table music I have heard it called in the UK.

I don't care about record sales one bit.Yeah,it's fun to keep an eye on the charts and see how well your favorite artists are doing,but in the end,it's not that important to me.If I like an album,that's all that matters to me.

soundscan and billboard album charts are based on what the people are buying and not based on payola and rado airplay that record companies are deciding on ie:hot 100. end of the day it's just tally and ur right has no bearing on the quality of music.

I really don't. The last time I took a look at the charts was when Musicology was released. And that was just because they were posted at this site?

None of my favourite bands have ever entered the Billboard charts. Two or three might have been on German or Swedish charts though, but that's not tellin' much.
