My answer: Lady T would destory Mariah by Round 3!!!

Forget about round 3, Teena would destroy her ass in 5 seconds.

Being part of what vainandy describes as "the dead generation", I actually haven't heard Teena's new shit.

I can't even compare the 2.....both good in their own right.

Not even a challenge for my girl Teena or fair fight for Mariah. Maybe in Mariah's early days there would have been grounds for a sing-off.

It’s the difference between real soul and manufactured soul. Both are the real deal though.

Teena Marie is wayyyy funkier.

Plus, her material (especially her classic stuff) is stronger. Mariah seems like she's slumming - her vocal talents deserve real songs. She seems to be going for trendiness instead of timelessness.

Im conflicted with the two.

I'd go with Teena because she had SOUL and there was so much heart put in2 her songs.

Yet I only own 3 or Teena Maries albums vs. ALL of Mariah's plus remixes and rarities so Mariah wins by album default.

But If I have heard all of Teena's material (the first 2 albums are very hard to find) I'd probably go with Teena.

I can't believe some of you are even considering Mariah!!! THERE IS NO COMPARISON!!! Not only does Teena have more vocal talent... but she writes all her songs, produces, and plays several instruments... What would Mariah be without the army of songwriters and producers spoonfeeding her songs?!

Yes, Teena plays piano and guitar and Goodness Knows What Else. Mariah doesn't write her own stuff, but partners up with the latest producers to get the latest "hot" sound. The end result of that approcach is that your stuff sounds like everyone else's. See Michael Jackson's Invincible album for a great example of this in action.

No memorable tunes because you sound like everyone else.

On "Rainbow" she is helped by others on almost ALL of the songs... On "How Much", there are SEVEN co-writers... And it's not like there's any deep thoughtful lyrics to any of this fluff that she sings... Teena does a majority of the work: Singing, Songwriting, Producing, Arranging AND Musicianship herself! *Shrug* You don't have to be a musician to have a sense of melody. The chick did grow up around musicians and with her opera-singer mother, so I'm sure she learned some things along the way. She's solely responsible for her early lyrics, though - read the credits. They're not anything special, but at least they're not insultingly stupid, as most of the stuff today is.
