Rating Recent Album Purchases Since Moonbeam tried to start this thread three times and the site seemingly wonked out on him every time, I thought I'd give it a shot, cuz I wanna see what he bought and what he thinks of it.

I was wondering too. The last thing I have been enthousiastic about is Roisin Murphy's Sequins EP's, but it has it's own thread already.

I haven't purchased any music in quite awhile. I'd have to go back to my Hawaii trip to really list anything new. It's not like me to not be buying music, but I'm totally obsessed with only Tori right now and listening to anyone else is like cheating. Plus, I'm broke.

I can 2nd that And not cuz I don't like 'em. It's just that they're so...weird. I haven't listened much since they came out, but Digital Ash in particular is an odd one. I think that I might really like it, it's just gonna take some work. That's the sense that I'm getting.

I'm just all screwed up today. I started that thread after all, not noticing this one. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Maybe see if the mods can combine them into one thread.

That's the sense that I'm getting. i think the albums are interesting. it's just...the dude sounds so BITTER. i mean, even moreso than when i listen to NIN, i wanna tell the guy to lighten up, cuz at the very least it would add some more colors to what i consider to be some very potentially colorful music. these albums are frustrating to me. it's like i want to like them, but the creativity sounds constipated by his sounding so pissy through it all. maybe i'll get used to it, i dunno. and anyway, 'guero' is still kicking my butt, so there's that to contend with.

He's definitely got the brat vocals down. With the first track on Digital Ash I was like, "whoa!". But after that, it does start to drag you down a bit. I used to be a huge NIN fan up until Lost Highway or so. I'm all for some miserable music, but I usually like it tempered with a bit of humor or beauty or insight or transformation or something. With NIN, I just wasn't getting any of that so I strayed. I still am fond of the first few albums, but I haven't been much of a fan for almost a decade now. I may still check out the new album, but Trent just doesn't resonate with me like he used to.

I think The Cure balances their different sides pretty well. And even if it isn't within one album, they usually follow up a heavy, dark record with something more sweet and varied. But I think that's why I can't listen to Pornography that often. Or Closer by Joy Division. The hopelessness of those is just overwhelming most of the time. It's easier for me to extract and focus on a few songs from them at a time, because I truly do love the music. Although, I'm probably not the best person to talk to about Joy Division. I know most people consider them like the soundtrack to suicide or whatever. But the energy of the sound makes me totally flip out. When I'm at home by myself listening to Substance or Unknown Pleasures, I turn into a whirlwind, and spazz the fuck out.
