I'm actually not a fan of her voice.

I love a lot of the Supremes' stuff, but that's mostly because the material is so excellent, I'd love it even if I were singing it.

I realized that I didn't like her voice when I tried to listen to the Lady Sings The Blues soundtrack, and the sound of her thin-ass voice doing Billie Holiday songs made me go "Gaaaahh!" shake

That said, though, her fabulousness factor is not to be fucked with. thumbs up!

Better actress. She was brilliant in "Lady Sings The Blues." That was Oscar worthy.

There isnt a film that shes ever done where her performance wasnt great IMO. Shes a compelling actress and I cant figure out why she hasnt done more films in recent years. Id buy a ticket to see her in a film anyday. Shes done some really good tv movies too. I want more films from the Diva. Im not as excited about new music from Diana Ross as I am abnout new films. Besides, there isnt much more that she can do to top her Motown and early RCA days. She kicks ass in that department. Shes recorded some of the most memorable songs ever. More films though, please! nod

Yeah, I agree with the thin ass voice. But I thought she did a great job with the acting. The bathroom scene alone.

i think her voice is iconic, but her acting? i'm sorry. she reminds me of a caffeinated chihuahua in her movies. it works in 'the wiz', but she was absolutely the LAST person who should have played billie holiday.

Yeah, but she's recorded great songs (say will you will about Madonna's voice, although I like it, but she has also recorded great songs). I haven't seen her in that many movies but of those I have seen and remember ("Mahogony", "The Wiz" and "Double Platinum") I'd definately say acting but I'll catch "Lady Sings the Blues" sooner or later.

What a nice photo of her...

She was excellent in this movie. I thought she was going to seriously return to acting after this but nothing really transpired other than Double Platinum.

It's a TV movie and Amazon doesn't list (and they at least list just about everything...). Where in the hell did you rent it?

Anytime! biggrin Heres a picture of her while in character for the film.

Diana Ross portrays a paranoid-schizophrenic who struggles with her mental illness and her fight to get well. This was a made-for-TV movie on ABC.

She was nominated for a Golden Globe for this TV movie. I wonder if she would still consider acting.

Fantastic in "Lady Sings", mediocre in other stuff. Never been a big fan of her voice but if she launched into "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" I'd cry like a bitch touched

I prefer her acting to her singing. I actually like the films I've seen her in and I don't like her (nasal) singing much at all.

Seeing her in concert last year really made me appreciate her more. She still sounds as fresh as any time you play one of her records.

Trivia: In the late 70s,Diana Ross was dating actor Ryan O'Neal. The two of them were gonna star in a film called 'The Bodyguard'.Yes,this is the same movie that Whitney Houston later made with Kevin Costner. For some reason,Diana and Ryan never made the movie, and the script floated around for years. Finally,in 1992,it was made into a (very successful) movie.I wonder if Diana regrets not making it first?
