Super fly soundtrack Appreciation thread I remember my parents playing this album over & over. I was to young to appreciate the brillilance of this masterpiece. Curtis painted a picture of life in the inner cities long before it became "cool" to be thugout & ghetto fabulous. The amazing thing is that this album does not sound dated and listening to you can visualize everything curtis is singing about. You to be a drug dealer remember Freddie's dead. Now that's a dose of ghetto reality.

All hail the badass and underappreciated curtis mayfield . Although I think his first solo album "Curtis" is slightly better than Superfly, Superfly is still pretty damn great (as is the one in between those two "roots"). Curtis gets the shaft in comparison to people like Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes. I think he's rivaled only by Sly and Stevie as the greatest album artist of R&B

Great music and I love the whole look of "Superfly" from the permed hair, the big cars, the fancy clothes, and the coolness of it all. Andy is a four letter word.

When is THIS from? The movie soundtrack originally came out in 1977... the CD was reissued as a UK import a couple of times, but it's out of print now... Cool soundtrack, especially, "Do Do Wap is Strong In Here" and "Back Against The Wall"... a blurb about the film: Short Eyes (1977) A brutally realistic account of life in "the Tombs," New York's toughest prison. Bruce Davison plays an accused child molester who becomes the target of the other inmates' anger. Luis Guzman, Curtis Mayfield and Miguel Pinero (who adapted his stageplay) also star in this drama. 100 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; audio commentary; filmographies. Album and CD Track Listing : 1. Do Do Wap is Strong in Here Curtis Mayfield 2. Back Against The Wall Curtis Mayfield 3. Need Someone To Love Curtis Mayfield 4. A Heavy Dude Curtis Mayfield 5. Short Eyes Curtis Mayfield 6. Freak, Freak, Free, Free, Free Curtis Mayfield 7. Break it Down H.P. Denenberg & Martin Hirsh 8. Another Fool in Love Curtis Mayfield 9. Father Confessor Curtis Mayfield ... Yes. A masterpiece. Get the deluxe 2 CD version. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I love Prince, but Superfly tops Purple Rain as my favorite sountrack of all time. And the songs are just as relevant today as they were when I first heard them in 1972. Powerful stuff.

I remember Curtis saying that he wanted the soundtrack to Superfly to be the conscience of the film, since the movie , on it's own, is fairly amoral. Although he never got a chance to talk to Gordon Parks , Jr. about it, Mayfield thought that the story needed a sort of a fleshed-out commentary about the consequences of the lives that the characters were leading....
