Michael was excellent--and so was pretty much everyone else. Still, the movie is unfortunately very leaden at times. I think it could've benefitted from a different director & screenwriter . .The resulting film does no justice to the source material.

Remake, please.

I agree...'The Wiz' was a flawed movie.So cheesy.I like some parts of it,but it's just corny to me.

According to Those Incredible Jackson Boys, a paperback published by Right On! magazine in 1984:

Although he has been romantically linked with both Tatum O'Neal and Brooke Shields, Michael demurs when asked about them. Actually, Michael allows as to how there is someone he loves and would marry in a moment. The lucky lady’s name is Diana. As in Ross. When Michael dropped that information on a reporter from Ebony, the writer, perhaps feeling fantasy and reality bumping together on him, pushed ahead warily. Michael was saying he loved his mentor platonically? Nope, replied Michael. Not platonically at all. He wants to marry her.
