Meshell Ndegeocello..PLANTATION LULLABIES Why why why didnt someone on this board tell me how GOOD Plantation Lullabies is? I have all of her CD's except this one and this morning I decided to buy it and I was blown away! I cant recall an artist whose debut CD was so strong! I recall hearing "Dred Loc" and "If Thats Your Boyfriend" on the radio/on BET back in the early 90's but I didnt know the CD was "LIKE THAT!" I guess I shoulda known it would have been since she DID put out the classic, PEACE BEYOND PASSION
anyone else feeling this CD? In the midst of the Jodeci and R. Kelly mania that began the early 90's, PLANTATION LULLABY was a welcome change and standout among that mediocrtiy....easily one of the BEST albums of all of the 90's

though i have yet to delve into Comfort Woman, i have to say Plantation Lullabies is her weakest album. and that's fine. it was her first, and it's still pretty damn good. you can hear the talent and the great ideas coming through that would later congeal on the superior Peace Beyond Passion. Bitter is my favorite, although i do feel it's a bit of a diversion from what she's about. it is its stunning beauty and heartbreak that put it head and shoulders above most other popular music that has been created. perhaps that's my problem with Cookie. it is great, but it seems like a major step back, at least musically, to the sound of Plantation Lullabies. that and, though i wasn't expecting her to repeat herself, it's not as breathtaking as Bitter. I can agree with you a lot Tessa..tho i do like PLANTATION LULLABIES, the hip hop element reminds me of the late 80's hip hop sound and that was a bit surprising since I had heard all her other albums...but it is still a satisying listen [Edited 4/16/05 14:30pm]

She's not to be dismissed. She's ALWAYS been the bomb. Her music is so lush! I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

YES Meschell is awesome..I remember reading an interview of her like in 1995 and she said that when she discovered Prince in the early 80's , music changed for her...she was like "I had EVERY 45, every 12"" LOL

Jony wasnt Wendy and Lisa on "God Shiva" from PEACE BEYOND PASSION? wendy co-wrote and plays.. lisa didnt pop up until Bitter. and despite the net rumors wendy only plays guitar on one song while Lisa performs on most. Now, interesting gossip part is Lisa rarely ever does session work without Wendy. Yet she picked this album to work on. Right about right after she and Wendy broke up. Space for sale...
