If Madonna had been reared as other than Catholic

I wonder if she would have pushed the sexual content as far. It seems her sexual provacative antics were a rebellion to her Catholic upbringing (duh). The rebellion is what made her a star possibly. Hell, if she was any other religion, she may not have even been a performer. The Catholic background was her driving force both consciously and unconsciously I think.

Well she probably wouldn't have been named "Madonna" which helped her initially.

Yes i feel that the Catholic upbringing did have a lot to do with her sexual antics. The Blonde Ambition Tour was probably her biggest form of rebellion against the Catholic Church and that's why the pope went head over heels to get her out of Rome...

And now in days when she wears a nun outfit, the church goes hysterical...

Meanwhile look back at Christina Aguilera wearing a nun outfit at the VMAs and then stripping into nearly nothing while dancing quite slutty to Dirrty.
The church said nothing....

They don't like that she is using the name "Madonna" to her advantage. But fuck, it's her name.

The church has just grown to hate her and in the process made so many contradictions amongst Catholicism that's it's hard to take them seriously anymore.

Yes he did, i think after the Sex Book and stuff.

Also during the Blonde Ambition Tour when she was coming to Rome, the pope wanted to meet with her and discuss the message of the tour. Madonna said something along the lines of, "If he wants to see me, he can line up like all my other fans and buy a ticket."

As much as i respect the pope, Madonna couldn't have said it better. She's out spreading her message while the pope spreads his.

Wow. She had hella balls to say that to the Pope. That was extremely disrespectful. I wonder if she regrets that now that the Pope has passed away.

She said she wanted the pope to meet her daughter and baptize her son at one point.
And no I doubt she regrets it.

What gives him the right to say she can't perform in Rome especially when her fans bought up the tickets. That wasn't really fair to her.

NO she was never excommuncated. Never placed on the hertic list. She is still a Catholic and both her children were baptized Catholic at her father's request.

If she was excommuncated she wouldn't be able to attend the baptisim of her children.

Catholicism is such a defining part of her, IMHO, that she wouldn't be Madonna without it.

Ditto for what jayaredee said about the name. Speaking of which, my mother was nearly named "Madonna Lily." How cool is that? cool

from speaking from a Catholic experience... even though i'm not a practicing Catholic i still consider myself Catholic.

it permeates my life. everything i do has some form of Catholic belief tied to it. images of the Church and it's icons make me homesick.
i was moved to tears over the death of man i would have never seen eye to eye with.

i don't think Madonna would be who she is today if she hadn't been Catholic. there would have been nothing to rebel against.

she wouldn't have been named Madonna for one. She wouldn't have the fixation on Crucifixes or the Church. There would have been no LAP video or Chruch section of the Blonde Ambition tour.

Also the pomp and circumstance of mass she has claimed as her first impression of what a good show should look like.
