Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life just went diamond!!! Anyone Happy? I just read somewhere on the net today that Stevie Wonder's masterpiece, Songs In The Key Of Life just went diamond, selling over a million or billion copies worldwide. Is anyone happy about this achievement and how many copies it has sold so far? Check me out and add me on:

A billion! That would mean 1 in 6 people on the planet own it! Perhaps that many should, but come on now!

The diamond certification means 10 million shipped to retail (not necessarily in the hands of consumers). It may have been that that many shipped a while ago, but his label is just now getting around to certifying it.

I'm not impressed. It's a double album, so really that's only 5 million copies, each counted twice.

Every home should have one.

According to Billboard, Songs in the Key of Life was given gold, platinum and multi-platinum (10) certification on March 29th. This was the first time it was certified. Not bad to go diamond on the first certification. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

it's almost pointless to compare Stevie's 70s albums with each other

I love that song! Thats great that SITKOL is now diamond. It should be. Its an awesome album. Motown back in the day refused to affiliate with the RIAA, that's why almost no Motown albums or singles have yet been certified. The reason Songs received a diamond award is that now Motown is owned by Universal, who certainly began to unleash audits for Motown's back catalogue. Just wait until they give multi platinum certifications for Marvin Gaye, Supremes (who had 12 #1s singles back in the 60's) or the Jackson 5 (whose I'll Be There is the biggest selling single in Motown's history at 4 million copies sold). Furthermore, Lionel Richie's Can't Slow Down, who went Diamaond back in 1985 has not been recertified yet since.

FFF was just more introspective, talking about his persective of life, death, and afterdeath because he was in a car accident a year eariler before Innervisions was released and after it was recorded. I'm certainly happy, it's probably my favorite double album of all time. My favorite single album is Innervisions . Everything from Signed Sealed Delivered to Hotter than July is great, with the absolute zenith being from Music of My Mind to Songs in the key of life. And hell, even if none of these 70s gems existed, stevie would still be remembered as one of the great soul singer/songwriters of the 60s.
