What if Madonna did all those things, would that make her a whore? The female "whore" is a completely sexist archetype. One thing you can say about Madonna is that she fucked the best, "top shelf", no scrubs for her; it's one of the few things I like about her.

As a Madonna fan you should stop calling any woman who decides to fuck whoever she please a whore.

I don't call any woman a whore regardless of who and how many they fuck. I was talking about it from society's perpsective. I should have clarified myself better.

DiamondGirl, I give you credit for taking your stance and creating this thread. Personally, I'm bored of all the scathing expert assessment of Madonna's love life. Some folks know more about it than even she does.

I can just imagine nightfall at Madonna's house:

Lourdes: "Mum, what are you planning for tonight?"

Madge: "It is simply the extrication of my inner self from the burden of sexual norms, and the restoration of my own powerful and integrated sexuality."

Lourdes: "An orgy?"

Madge: "Yeah, that's the one."

MADONNA was the one who put all that manly shit in America's face. She said, "fuck all yall bitches, I'm the fuckin mistress tonight"...though it lasted for liek 3 years b4 it got kinda played out and she went in a more positive direction with her career..though it needs back it's 80's glam...Madonna we need it.

So what if Madonna was a whore? Hell,I was a whore at one point in my life, sleeping with numerous girls.I don't regret it one bit lol

Everyone goes through their "whore phase".It's a part of life.Madonna went through her phase in the early 90s.But people forget that she had been married before. For four years, she had a controlling, abusive husband (Sean Penn). So when the divorce ended,it was understandable that she would want to get freaky and have a little fun.

What I always appreciated about madonna was that she never did anything half arsed. If she was going to be sexual and show that she could be an aggressively sexual being, she did it properly. She didnt pussy foot around wearing short skirts and doing the odd "lads-mag" spread in her underwear, she put it all out there - full frontal nude. A lot of people crucified her for it, apparently its ok to be sexual, just dont show it to everybody. No matter what Madonna's intentions in doing this, be they personal, or just plain attention grabbing, it definitely proved that as a society we have a lot of hang ups about nudity & sexuality.

I admire the way Madonna had sculpted her body to perfection for that book. The way she was willing to exorcise certain personal hang ups she had about her sexuality and her body in public, and to explore different avenues in her career.

I would certainly throw this into direct comparison with the way that Janet and Mariah have expressed their sexuality. Mariah is always bending over cars in skimpy bikinis, or pushing her taped up tits out in the direction of anyone looking. To me that feels more wrong as there is no message or point of view behind it. It's objectifying her to sell her image & music. Janet too has used sex but more implicitly. Since the Janet album shes been moaning around on her albums, and i have hardly ever heard anyone criticise her for it, why? because shes always been covered up. Nudity is apparently the main evil in all of this. Fuck having a point of view, just dont show us your beaver.

there's a strong argument that in Madonnas case it was all a cheap publicity trick, sex sells ok, but you look at her at this point and she couldnt have been any bigger or more successful. I love the whole sex period, as its so obvious madonna was extremely inspired to create new images and explore a different kind of music. She may have slept around a bit during the early 90's but so what. single women have sex....as do single men....where's the crime? We all have needs, sometimes being in a relationship isn't convenient, those needs still need satisfying.

Fabulous topic! smile

I am a lifelong M fan and fell in love with her when I was just four years old. She really shaped the woman I became and the way I expect to be treated by others.

The backlash against M during the Sex era was utterly predictable. What I found more interesting was the second backlash against her after Lourdes was born. It threw her critics completely. This woman who they had successfully demonised should have been shrivelling up alone and full of regret in her later years. Instead she settled down with a family. It was two sides of the feminine that they couldn't reconcile. Madonna showed the world that you could have it all.

I think Madonna is one of the strongest female role models you could ask for. I will gladly introduce any daughter of mine to her.

Croozza,I agree with the points you made. One thing I've always appreciated about Madonna is,when she went through her whole "Erotica/Sex" phase, she was on a mission. She had a purpose,a point to make. She was making people confront issues that they didn't want to talk about. She was proving how hypocritical people can be when it comes to sex.She was mocking people's conservative views on sexuality. She was challenging people's beliefs about sex.I recall a comment she made about all the criticism she received for doing the 'Sex' book. She said "I've proved my point" and she's right.Alot of people don't like the idea of a strong, liberated woman who is confident about her sexuality and is not afraid to discuss it.

Alot of other pop divas are now trying to imitate Madonna, exposing their breasts...smiling and giggling during intrerviews as they try to say "controversial" things about their sex lives. But there's no real purpose,no sense of irony,no humor, and no real message they're trying to convey. They're just being sleazy for the sake of being sleazy. My feeling is...if you're gonna get nasty on us,do it all the way.Don't tease!

actually, there are a lot of people who consider Mother Teresa a whore. not in a sexual way, but she sure did know how to live it up with limousines and helicopters on her trips abroad. and she certainly loved the publicity and fame she received when there were many other organizations in India doing MORE and BETTER work than she. shrug

nope, that's not it at all. Madonna is Madonna, and is judged by one standard, that she has set for herself as a pop star. Mother Teresa is judged on another level, as that of a saint. Do some research, she was no saint. And really didn't actually affect much at all. Educate yourself on something besides female pop stars for a change, and you wouldn't have to relate every conversation to them.
