I used to like The Fat Boys back in the day. They used to make those funny "Uhuhuhuhuh!" noises that used to crack me up! lol

I forgot that the one guy's name was "Prince MD". giggle Aren't one or two of the guys from this group dead? sad Not to sound morbid, but that's what I heard once.

nod I think Prince Markie D is the only one that is living now. Because one of them got shot. Another one of the members died of something food related.

Dang, that's ashame! I just found this online:

Sadly, in early '95, The Human Beat Box was diagnosed with lymphedema, a rare crippling disease. On December 10th, 1995, the industry lost a great hip-hop soldier when Robinson passed away at the age of 28 from cardiac arrest during a severe bout with respiratory flu. Prior to his death he was working on a production deal with Sony as well as a Fat Boys reunion album. The two surviving members plan on completing the album using the vocals Robinson cut prior to his death.

sad He only lived to be 28 years old!! disbelief
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

hmmm That's deep.

It's real deep. lol Anyone who likes this movie and hasn't seen the DVD should check it out. There's a nice piece on there with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis talking about the writing and recording of Tender Love. They even do a duet.

Tender Love is the jam.

Well, after the premiere of Krush Groove, he invited me back to his apartment...and the "God" instrumental from PR was playing quietly in the background, he broke out the purple kool-aid, and the next thing i know, he's the turd burgler diggin in my chocolate sandbox. I haven't been the same since.

I'm nearly 35, so yes i've seen this, Beat Street, the two Breakdance movies. I loved all that stuff.

most of summers '83 and '84 was spent asking shopkeepers for empty cardboard boxes so we could make Breakdance mats, it was a great day when we finaly got some Lino and sprayed it with Mr Sheen.

lol

I'm kind of surprised that people have not heard of this movie but I guess I understand since it might be before some people's time. I remember first hearing about it and seeing it maybe ten years ago when MTV (I'm alsomost certaint it was MTV when they had this rap weekend and I think it was before VH1 did movies) played it and I think some rappers gave commentary in between (they dog Shelia's attempt at rapping). THe first hint I had that this movie even exisited was from Shelia's video "Love Biazzare". BTW, you have love a movie that exploits the star power of Shelia E., even though Run DMC and Blair Underwood where probably in the movie more. If you haven't seen it, check it out. I would say it's the best of the breakdance/hip hop movies of the 1980s. A lot of great music and a lot of fun (not the best acting but what are you gonna do?).

"Krush Groove" was made in 1985 and "Purple Rain" was long over and was finishing up on HBO by the time "Krush Groove" was out.

Anyway, great movie.

One of my favorite movies. Got the DVD. To me it's perfect.. it's hiphop, but also manages to include a Prince related act (Sheila E).

Yeah, when I saw the music video I was like "Wow, that guy sings like Prince...wait a minute...". I remember I wanted the video (or at the very least to rent it) after I saw it but it wasn't available. Now that it's on DVD, I'm checking it out!

That part cracks me up though. When my friend Carl was watching it for the first time, he kept asking if Prince was gonna do his adlibs on "A Love Bizarre" and I said Yep! Just Wait! biggrin

Then of course that anonymous lip syncer arrived for that portion. lol

I remember Krush Groove. I saw it when it first came on HBO or Showtime when I was 7, I think. I liked it and still do. Plus they shot some scenes around where my Mom and I lived at the time like the Car Wash scene in the beginning and seeing the subway running through the area (the #1 train). I need to get it on DVD.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This movie (as dated as it is) is still a cool fick, especially if you're into old school Hip-Hop. You had all the Rap stars in it. Even the Beastie Boys.

But didn't Sheila E. just seem out of place in that movie with her Prince-like style?

I saw this movie mainly because Sheila E. is in it lol

The movie has some fun moments, but it feels like it was hastily thrown together. It's as if the producers said "Let's gather up a bunch of the hottest rappers, let's add New Edition to make the young girls happy, and hey, let's invite Sheila E. to the party so that the 'Purple Rain' crowd will be interested too"...lol...it feels more like a party than a legitimate movie. There's not much of a storyline here.Years later, even Run DMC were quoted as saying that this film is "whack".

I'll stick with the superior 'Beat Street' hmph!

Beat Street sucked majored ass. Moreless in the time of hip hop movie with no plot, it was about being in the moment. Like many teens in that time, I was into rappin and breaking and so I would look forward to seeing films like these because it reflected what was going on at that time. It was kind of like a urban Woodstoock.
