To answer your question yes, as I was probably older than you are now when it came out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Get the fuck out of here. Whoa, I remember when this shit came out. This movie is old as fuck but it is a classic like a motherfucker. The soundtrack is what carries the movie. Basically, it is based on how Def Jam/Def American was founded. Of course, I have to keep in mind that some people in Europe or in other parts of America wasn't hip to this movie back then. Being that I grew as black teenager in the 80's, I have great memories of this movie.

Krush groove was the story of Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin... the start of Def Jam recordings, Def Jam started in Rick's dorm at NYU. the 1st artists to be signed to Def Jam was "The Beasties" then LL, Jimmy ( Super Rhymes) Spicer had a brief Tenure with Def Jam.

It was one of the first movies after Wild Style, Breakin, and maybe a few others that focused on major already established rap stars. Sheila E being added to the movie brought several of the Prince fans. Not sure how this played in Peoria but I think it had at least a minimal amount of crossover to all cultures. Ha ha at Full Force. Gotta love their curls. And watch for the scene where LL comes in. Jam Master Jay pulls his gun and they all laugh about it after LL's performance ("and Jay was gonna shoot him!") All too telling. . [Edited 4/9/05 18:37pm]

Not me. I didn't know any better. Plus I was enamored with the two Sheila E performances and cinematography, espcially on Love Bizzarre.

okay well if its an okay movie then... it doesnt matter... has anyone seen the wizard of Oz... that movie was made way before anyone was born... but people still see it... I just happened to stumble on Krush groove... I didnt grow up int the 80's so its interesting to see stuff from a different time period... especially when everything now including music sounds the same...

I used to like The Fat Boys back in the day. They used to make those funny "Uhuhuhuhuh!" noises that used to crack me up! I forgot that the one guy's name was "Prince MD". Aren't one or two of the guys from this group dead? Not to sound morbid, but that's what I heard once. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Another one of the members died of something food related.

In fact, Car Wash and Krush Groove have the same director. This is one of those great silly movies. For old school hip hop fanatics, this movie is a must. So many great appearances in the film. We started to watch this in school when it first came out on video, and the teacher yanked it out of the player when the love scene started!

Anyone who likes this movie and hasn't seen the DVD should check it out. There's a nice piece on there with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis talking about the writing and recording of Tender Love. They even do a duet.
