'54' Movie Soundtrack Volumes 1 and 2---appreciation thread

In the 90s during the Seventies revival, record stores were flooded with numerous 70s disco compilations. Some of these compilations are excellent (such as Rhino Record's 'The Disco Years' series) and some of them are downright embarassing. The problem is that many of these compilations feature the same predictable songs that are already featured on other sets. That's why the '54' movie soundtrack, which consists of two volumes sold separately,is such a pleasant surprise. It contains many well-known hits (such as Chic's "Dance Dance Dance" and "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston) but it also contains many forgotten,hard-to-find jams that you don't usually find on other compilations.Take a look at the tracklist...

'54' Soundtrack Volume 1---

"Studio 54" The 54 AllStars
"Keep On Dancin" Gary's Gang
"The Boss" Diana Ross
"Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah)" Chic
"Vertigo/Relight My Fire" Dan Hartman
"You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" Sylvester
"Move On Up" Destination
"Love Machine (Part 1)" The Miracles
"Contact" Edwin Starr
"Knock On Wood" Mary Griffin
"Let's Start The Dance" Bohannon
"I Got My Mind Made Up" Instant Funk
"Young Hearts Run Free" Candy Staton
"Native New Yorker" Odyssey
"Que Sera Mi Vida" The Gibson Brothers
"Wishing On A Star" Rose Royce

'54' Soundtrack Volume 2---

"If You Could Read My Mind" Stars On 54 (Ultra Nate,Amber and Jocelyn Enriquez)
"Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet" Gonzalez
"Heaven Must Have Sent You" Bonnie Pointer
"Loving Is Really My Game" Brainstorm
"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" GQ
"Found A Cure" Ashford and Simpson
"Don't Leave Me This Way" Thelma Houston
"Come To Me" France Joli
"Take Your Time (Do It Right)" S.O.S. Band
"Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" Santa Esmeralda
"Spank" Jimmy "Bo" Horne
"Galaxy" War
"I Need A Man" Grace Jones
"Heart Of Glass" Blondie
"Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" Buzzard's Original Savannah Band
"Fly Robin Fly" Silver Convention

Most songs are featured in their full-length versions, and there are even a few decent new tracks."If You Could Read My Mind" by Stars On 54 is a lovely disco remake of the 1970 Gordon Lightfoot classic. The album begins with "Studio 54",which is a too-short medley of many songs that are soon to follow. The only disappointment is Mary Griffin's lame remake of "Knock On Wood",which isn't nearly as powerful and electrifying as the 1979 Amii Stewart version (they should have used that version instead).Regardless, these are the perfect CDs to play during a party.Your guests won't be able to sit still!

Anyone else enjoy this soundtrack as much as I do? lol

I bought Volume 2 for "Loving Is Really My Game" by Brainstorm. I went back to get Volume 1 for "Let's Start The Dance" by Bohannon and it was gone. I never could find it again, so a friend finally ended up burning me a CD of it.
Andy is a four letter word.

I loved this album when it came out. Way more than I ever loved the movie.
