The Idiot: Iggy Pop!

Tell me this album isn't the shit?! Every song is great. I especially love "sister midnight" and "night clubbing"!

I still don't know much about the Popster though. Are there any other albums he's made that are similar to The Idiot? I'm not too crazy about punk but I love the sound on this record, as it's not really punk but just straight a head rock.

Yes, it is a wonderful, wonderful album.

He made The Idiot in '76 with David Bowie during their period in Berlin together. The following year they made Lust For Life together. It's the more energetic, positive cousin. And you're right, he toned down the punk elements for a more sinister, electronic, yet still rocking sound.

Thanks for the info. Is that when they were supposedly getting jiggy with it?

I also think the idiot is very funky. Do you agree? Would you also recomend Lust for Life? I think I prefer the more chilled out side of Iggy than the more hyped up stuff he's put out.

Lust For Life certainly is bursting with energy, but not in a hyper punk kinda way. Just an excited, glad to be off drugs, happy to be in this cool ass city with my best friend, having the time of my life kinda way. I would definitely recommend it. Highly. You can't have one without the other. In some ways, it's like his own Black Album to Lovesexy. And yes, The Idiot's got a bit of funk.

As already mentioned, Bowie got down with Iggy on this and Lust For Life. Both are great albums. I'm a big fan of The Stooges, but I like these. Another Bowie produced affair u should check if u haven't already is the Transformer album by Lou Reed.

Cool! I may have to get myself a copy of it. By the way, I love the description you gave of "an excited, glad to be off drugs.....". That's really funny but definitely cool!

If Bowie and Iggy hooked up that would be some brutal ass sex.

That just needed to be said and I didn't mean "ass sex"

I wasn't up on the Transofrmer album. Has it got the same sort of vibe as the Idiot? If so, i'll definitely check it out! Fanks for the tip.

No, it's not really anything like it except for the debauchery. The one element I can see in common is that Bowie often used other artists as a primer for his next work. Just as The Idiot can be seen as bridging the gap between the vastly different Station To Station and Low, so can Transformer be seen as the transition from the confection cabaret of Hunky Dory and the iconic, gorgeous, razor sharp glam of Ziggy Stardust. If you're thinking about getting into Lou, this would definitely be the place to start.

I was going out with this awful girl around the same time I got into this album, so listening to is a bit difficult.

But personal reasons aside, it's a pretty good album. Bowie's own version of China Girl can't fucking touch Iggy's.

I think I'd prefer Lust For Life with or without the baggage The Idiot carries for me, though.

Does anyone know if Bowie and Pop are still close? I wonder what they would come up with together nowadays.
