The 1978 movie-musical "Sgt.Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band"---what were The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton thinking?! As a huge fan of Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees,I have to ask....why did they agree to star in this disastrous piece of crap?? To those of who who have seen this film (and there aren't that many of us) you know what I mean.It is AWFUL,no sense in denying it.As I pointed out in my 'Grease' thread a few weeks ago, musicals can be corny and silly if they're not done right. This movie is a prime example. It's a mess.I wonder how The Beatles felt about this fiasco? There are alot of really bad movies that still manage to have a certain charm to them, but this isn't one of them.I do like a few songs on the soundtrack (Earth Wind and Fire's remake of "Got To Get You Into My Life" is a highlight) but I don't even own the CD.And as you guys know,I pretty much own everything that came out in the 70s...lol...I'm curious,is there anyone out there who actually likes this movie? Be honest.

I am also a big Frampton fan, and I can appreciate the Bee Gees as well, but I've never seen this. I've always wanted to though.
Now I HAVE to see it. In fact, I almost bought the LP at a book/album fair last week just for the hell of it. Funny this thread about it comes up now. [Edited 4/8/05 6:44am] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Rent "Grease" instead.Nearly all the other musicals from this period ('Sgt.Peppers'...'Xanadu'...'Can't Stop The Music'....even 'The Wiz') suck big time
but 'Grease' rules! | |

I haven't seen it, but heard about it and how horrible it is. Part of me was curious as to how bad it really is, but after this thread, I'm sure I don't ever want to see it. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

You must be very afraid. No artist is infallible. But hey, I'm still gonna stay away from it.

You must be very afraid. No artist is infallible. But hey, I'm still gonna stay away from it. I stayed away from Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same" movie for a while for that reason. I heard it was really cheesy (the "fantasy" sequences at least) so I was scared to see it. I love it though. It's actually not that bad. Weird, and sometimes pointless with very Holy Grail-ish scenes in it, but not too bad. Nowhere as cheesy as, say, Graffiti Bridge. I kinda like the "day in the LIfe" sequence where the Bee Gees roll up all happy in the convertable and Peter Frampton is about to committ suicide from what appears to be a second story window and the music is all " Id like to telll yoouuuu alllll..." and than he jumps and its very suspensefull.

Wtf? Bonham's makes no sense, and Plant's are just hilarious. When he gets off his viking-like ship and plants his sword in the sand on the beach. I have to laugh out loud every time I see it. And he gets almost the ENTIRE "Rain Song" for his. At least Jimmy kept his short and well, weird. Although I would have liked to see more of him climbing that mountain. Oh oh oh!!! And how could I forget Jonesy's!! His HAIR!!! That has to be a wig. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I had the 2xLP and now I have the 2xCD.
Yes, I'm a Bee Gees fan myself But I never watched the movie. I'd give it a try if it came on TV but I've tried with many musicals from this period and DavidEye is right :They suck. I started several times Xanadu but can't get to watch more than 10, 15 minutes. My face literally burns. and I have to turn it off.

Oh oh oh!!! And how could I forget Jonesy's!! His HAIR!!! That has to be a wig. Apparantly that mountain climbing nearly killed Mr. Page. Not being the healthiest guy on the planet at that time probably didn't help him much, either. Jonesy's hair! Damn, I forgot all about that!

Actually, he was pretty healthy (by comparison) in '73 compared to later years. I read that it was a lot more difficult that he thought it would be to climb that mountain, and he had to rely on all his yoga training. Aah, Jimmy doing yoga.....
