Quite the opposite.I'm a huge fan. But Bad, while good for a MJ record, doesn't deserve mention with the other releases of 1987.

Then we'll just have to disagree, because I think Bad was a monumental release of that year and it does deserve to be mentioned.

Could you please elaborate, because I have no idea what the heck you're talking about. You don't think the album deserves a mention, I think it does. You think it's embarrasing, I don't. You think it's plastic sounding, I don't.

So what's the problem? Really, help me out. You don't think an album can be monumental based on songwriting? Is that what you're saying? Is that where I'm "contradicting" myself? If I say that the production could be better? If that's what you're saying, then I'm sorry but we'll have to disagree -- again. Even the best albums have their flaws. And Bad isn't anywhere the best, just one of my very favourites from that era.

Add to your list:

Digable Planets: Blowout Comb
Common Sense: Resurrection
Gang Starr: Hard To Earn
The Roots: Do You Want More?!!?!
Pete Rock & CL Smooth: The Main Ingredient
Mary J. Blige: My Life

and the argument only gets stronger.

You seem like you are trying to convince yourself, after you have already stated above that it sholdn't be in present company of others mentioned standard wise.

Either that or you're one of "thos" MJ fans. Yikes.

lol I almost put these two years together myself. Actually 81-83 is the height of old school IMO

Yeah, that was my tenth grade year. That's how I remember the year that certain songs came out is by associating it with the grade I was in. My favorite years would probably be 1979-1984, with 1975-1978 coming in second place. To me, beginning in 1985, music first started going down.

Gee, you noticed it too, this shit is getting boring?

For the last time, I can consider a music release important even if it has flaws, and I never, ever stated Bad shouldn't be in the company of the others I mentioned. I said production wise it could be better, but in my opinion MJ's songwriting deserved to be mentioned.

Either way, AFD wins the game for me. That was one great album.

Another year for me would be 1991. Off the top of my head: Use Your Illusion I&II, Innuendo, Nevermind, Metallica, Dangerous, Blue Lines, The Low End Theory, Diamonds And Pearls...

Two *A M A Z I N G* years for dance music at the clubs were

1 9 9 9 &

1 9 8 9

In 89 Hip Hop and Rap were fused regular format and DJs were getting away from 12" mixes and putting together their own styles in the booth before the bust.

In 99 pre-millenium electronica and computer new styles blew the lid off of everything in the clubs and on radio/mtve it was never better.
