Michael vs. Janet Who do you prefer?
I actually dont have an answer for any Michael vs. Somebody debate anymore (I just enjoy gathering everyone else's opinion), but I'd like to point out that without Michael's extraordinarily early fame as front-man of the Jackson 5, Janet possibly wouldn't be anywhere.

I agree. but I haven't any say for both of them,on account of Mike's molestation case, and Janet's nudity scandal with prettyboy J.Timberlake. They're all kind of weird, but hey, that's my [Edited 4/4/05 15:09pm] [Edited 4/4/05 15:09pm] When you wanna give up, don't cause ya' know, you've always got a friend-Tamar BLB

I dig Mike's music more than Janet's personally speaking.
He's certainly a better dancer and vocalist than Janet has ever been. Her biggest success being Rhythm Nation was an idea that was originated from Michael Jackson, but let Janet use it. However, Janet is much more sane, and has more of a career now in days than Michael has. I also like her a lot more as a person, i can connect better with her. Michael, i just don't get.

Michael is certainly more talented - I don't think anyone can deny that.
But as to whom I prefer - Janet. The only two Michael albums I really listen to on a regular basis are Off The Wall (his masterpiece) and Thriller, although I also like a few songs from Bad (particularly Liberian Girl), Dangerous, and HIStory. With the help of Jimmy & Terry, Janet made two absolutely seamless records in Control and Rhythm Nation. I think I actually prefer those to Thriller, which I find vastly overrated. They seem to work much better as cohesive albums. It's interesting that Michael himself thought Rhythm Nation was genius - and was concerned about what the future held for him when it only managed to shift 6 million copies. As for her 90's output, it goes without saying that janet. and The Velvet Rope are two of my favorite pop albums, although definitely not up to her 80's standards (TVR comes close). The main problem with janet. is that it doesn't work as an album so much as a vehicle for its singles (same problem I have with Thriller). I liked All For You (didn't love it), and tolerated Damita Jo, because it contained some of the old spark and a few good songs here and there. But she was on autopilot, and I guess she knew it - the SB was a huge mistake on her part, but what artist doesn't have one of those after 20+ years on the market? I'm sure she'll bounce back with some excellent new material. She's been a more consistent hitmaker than Michael or Madonna - I think we'll see a return to form in a few years. Also, she's really the only sane Jackson in the bunch, so she gets points for that. [Edited 4/4/05 15:36pm]

Janet. I can also agree with almost everything VoicesCarry said. But I also think that Janet is a better performer than MJ in terms of theatricality and the way she can connect with the audience. I've always thought she puts on a much better show than Mike.

Michael.
No surprise there, eh? | |

I find that impossible to believe (I know we’ve been through this before.) I doubt you saw Mike in his prime. Look at his J5 stuff...I mean you like Janet better...no big deal...

Mike’s adult solo stuff is just a primer.
It’s hard for me to gage the evolution of Janet’s career because I stopped listening to the R&B/pop music from 95 to 01. The whole is HIStory project was a turn off to me (the album is good though) and I became strictly interested in metal and alternative. I gotta listen to All For You and Damita Jo again. I wasn’t posting when Damita Jo came out, but I liked the album. The album was marketed awfully though. [Edited 4/4/05 16:50pm]

I agree. I prefer Michael. I never liked Janet. I always liked Michael ever since I was little. He's the most talented in the family by far. He's an incredible performer, dancer, and singer. He's very interesting and misunderstood.I like his music videos too. A lot of Janets are boring or weird. I only like two cds of hers- Janet and Velvet Rope. She's a good dancer. I also think she's overrated and that she cannot sing really at all.

Yeah, her voice is lame.
I know, lol. She got to have one of the worst voices I've heard besides Britney Spears etc. Really, if her brother wasn't Michael Jackson, theres probably no way she would get signed. Do u know that she didn't even have to sing to a record deal?! They just signed her

I've read from several sources that she got an audition with A&M (through MJ or not - I'm not sure). I'll trust that over "I heard it from a friend of a friend...."
