I picked up the new Beck and New Order albums, as well as Mastodon's Lifesblood EP. Beck wins, the New Order gets better as the album goes on, and the Mastodon is good but too standard metal.

I'm gonna ask Anxy in three weeks if he's still digging the extras. Time will tell.

Mastadon...didn't he used to post here? Seriously, the guy was either in the band or just really hardcore about them (or is it like one person).

as of now, i can't tell the difference between the extras and the 'proper' album tracks, with the possible exception of the remixes (which i really like). i am SO happy i bought the version with the extra songs. nod

I can't wait to get the new New Order. Granted, I've had all the tracks for over a month now, but I really really like this album. It seems like a great one to tour behind, and I'm so happy I got tickets to see them live. And I agree with you, the album finds its footing by about track 3.

"Mastodon" was an orger who used to be someone else, and he really, really liked the band. I picked up Leviathan on his recommendation after listening to the first song - definitely my favorite album last year.

Oh, and I listened to the rest of the New Order album - the second half is great! Nothing as "wow" as Crystal, but half the songs are as good as Slow Jam. It's seriously more engaging than Get Ready.

In the past week I bought

Beck--Guero
Kinks--Village Green Preservation Society
Kinks--Lola vs. Powerman and the Money-go-round

so far I'm enjoying them all--four out of five stars. Though the Beck album seems a step back from Midnite Vultures on first listen.

We've been trying to save money so that we can become...ugh...homeowners. Thus, my musical purchases are limited these days. I've gone about a month without new music. I feel so lost in this world. I'm determined to look at the positive side and see it as an opportunity to reacquaint myself with all the music I already own.

falloff I still love that show. And thanks for the well-wishing. It's still about a year off. I'm going to buy a few albums soon, but I just have deep shame about one of them - The Emancipation of Mimi. I can't let it be my sole purchase that day. I'm gonna have to treat it like porn and buy something a little more sanitary to distract from its dirtiness. It'll be like buying Jugs and...I dunno...Highlights on the same trip.
