O.G.'s......name me some CLASSIC old school RAP

Prince fans r getting older.....and i know most of us r old enough to remember the start of Rap. There have been classic songs, but what about Classic Albums, Albums which were the shit from top to bottom?
Here are some of my favs....
*Raising Hell- Run DMC
*It Takes A Nation Of Millions..-Public Enemy
*The Chronic- Dr Dre
*Please, Hammer Don't Hurt Em- MC Hammer
*and Fat Boys, loved the first album.
What r some of the others? Which songs r classics?

'The Message'- Grandmaster Flash and the furious 5
'Basketball'- Kurtis Blow
'The R'- Eric B & Rakim
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

*Run DMC - It's Like That
*Electric Kingdom
*Egyptian Lover

*JJ Fad - Supersonic (Was corny as hell, but it grew on ya)
*Tigra & Bunny (The Cars that Go Boom--corny too, but also grew on ya)
*Brand Nubian - All for One is a classic!
*Poor Righteous Teachers - Holy Intellect
*BDP - Criminal Minded, By All Means Necessary, Edutainment
*Queen Latifah - All Hail the Queen (Dance for Me, Ladies First)

Funklov

LL Cool J was my first concert. Back when "I'm bad" and "I need love" were his hits. "Rock the Bells" was another fav of mine. Whodini opened up for them and I thought they were the best dancers when they did the "cabbage patch" to "One Love".

Classic albums in rap are few and far between.....singles are where most acts seem to put their all.

A few classics....

"It Takes A Nation Of Millions..." - Public Enemy
"3 Feet High And Rising" - De La Soul (can't believe nobody else has mentioned this - this is an album in the true sense of the word.
"Licensed To Ill" - Beastie Boys
"King Of Ecstacy" - Egyptian Lover
"Take A Look Around" - Masta Ace
"Straight Outta Compton" - NWA
"Enter The Wu Tang Clan / 36 Chambers" - Wu Tang Clan
"The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick" - Slick Rick
"The Book Of Life" - Rakim (basically all the hits in one package - this is probably my most listened to Rap album)
"Goin' Off" - Biz Markie
"Criminal Minded" - Boogie Down Productions

Singles, don't get me started but have to agree with the whole Roxanne saga (Shante was the BOMB - if y'all ain't heard Def Fresh Crew you are truly missing out)
Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

Good Morning Everybody,

Revolution, that's a heavy list with a lot of SUGAR Hill sprinkled throughou that mix.

Hey, speaking of West Street Mob, how about a song which is probably their biggest hit LET'S START THE DANCE. That one take me back to my first high school party I went to back in 81'.....

"Make noise... be seen, party people let me hear you scream"

Yeah that was the JJJJJAMMMMM right there.

Excuse ME, that song by West Street Mob was called "Let's Dance (Make Your Body Move)", I was thinking about Bohannon's dance floor classic "Let's Start The Dance" which is also a tight party song.

Wow -- I gotta say thanks to all of you for the memories! I remember seeing UTFO in concert back when 'Roxanne Roxanne' came out (hey -- I was only fifteen, and I actually went to see Jesse Johnson's Revue, who gave a great show!). I remember working with a DJ in college, watching crowds go crazy when Rodney O's 'Everlasting Bass' was played.

There's not much to add -- you guys mentioned most of my favorites. Let me think:

Audio Two - 'Top Billin' (nuff said)
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
MC Shy D - 'Gotta Be Tough' (gotta love the Earth, Wind & Fire sample)
Stetsasonic - In Full Gear (an actual hip-hop band, this 1988 album featured 'Sally' and 'Talkin' All That Jazz'; two of the members of this group later co-founded the Gravediggaz)
A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels... (their jazzy, funky, sample-heavy debut; I still play this one sometimes while I eat 'chicken-chicken-chicken' smile)

Just thought of a few more.....

"Straight Out The Jungle" - Jungle Brothers (some great songs on here - I'll House You just sounds better than ever before. (Listened to it today in case you hadn't guessed)

"Colors Orignial Motion Picture Soundtrack" - Back in '88 this was the best compilation around. Still sounds dope!

"Electro" albums on Streetsounds in the UK - a genius compilation series only let down in it's dying days. Early volumes included the likes of Newcleus, Captain Rock, The B-Boys, Hashim & Davy DMX. It's all good!

"Mantronix" - first album flows like a river.

"Back To The Old School" - Just Ice. The O.G. his badself.

"Schooly D" - Schooly D - Even with the Prince dis!
and finally (and how could I forget!)

"Wild Style Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" - real old school stle, just brings tears to my eyes!
Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

All you need is GRANDMASTER FLASH.

All the rest is gravy.

Seriously.

Pick up a copy of "The Official Adventures of..." or his latest mix comp release. Anyone who can make Nu Shooz sound HOT is a damn genius.
