Cool. I would have thought , with all her insecurities and fears. Plus considering she's in your avatar.

Cool. I would have thought , with all her insecurities and fears. Plus considering she's in your avatar. Love Jean, her and nico have beautiful voices. Jean is my fav classic female actress. I meant musically with nico. I love a lot of people though, many of them are insecure. you seem like a movie fan...so you probably know Nico is in La Dolce Vita. [Edited 3/26/05 18:57pm]

Nico rules. I've just gotten into her music recently. The Velvet Underground & Nico was the doorstep. Chelsea Girl was the clincher. Desertshore has me confused. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I don't really have anything nice to say, so I probably shouldn't say anything...but I just can't keep my mouth shut.
Nico had the good fortune to work with some amazing talents. However I think her solo records are completely ruined by her tone-deaf sub-gothic vocals. The Marble Index is the prime example of this: the music is fantastic, some of the most adventurous and starkest ever to be marketed as pop, and John Cale's production is brilliant...but most of it is made unlistenable by her complete inability to carry a tune. Another example: her version of These Days. I prefer the arrangement of her version to Jackson Browne's own, but again her vocals totally destroy the song. Edit: I just dug out the Marble Index and found that John Cale just arranged the music on that album. He did not produce it: my mistake. [Edited 3/27/05 16:45pm]

I dig her tone-deaf sub-gothic vocals, it's very "Germanic chic " which is praise I coined, just put it in Google. What do you think of her version of I'm Not Sayin' ?

She's different. I only have "The Velevet Underground and Nico" so I'm not THAT familiar with her work. I'd say she has a molassas delivery.

German Chic - good one. Not to thread-jack, but I find stern, icy teutonic women hot - very, very hot. Anyway, I've either never heard I'm Not Sayin' or I've completely forgotten it. What album is it from? [Edited 3/27/05 17:20pm]

It's not on an album. It was a single pre Velvet Underground.

It's not on an album. It was a single pre Velvet Underground. I watched Nico Icon about a year ago and I recall a pre-VU song being played - it was a very bouncy folk-rock sounding track, quite good as I remember it. Is that what you're referring to?

Yes, they showed a music video like film clip of her singing I'm Not Sayin' in nicoicon. I don't think Nico is like the greatest ever. I mean I like Patti Smith and Sinead more, but I think her voice is really cool.

Oh, I shouldn't make it seem like I loathe her or anything - I've just always found her records very frustrating because I can't get past her voice.

What, "Germanic chic" not your thing? Were you the guy/gal who said they liked John Cales solo stuff? His voice is kinda hard for me to take, but I like his music.

Were you the guy/gal who said they liked John Cales solo stuff? His voice is kinda hard for me to take, but I like his music. I'm the John Cale guy, and I've always thought he had a lovely voice. One of my first concerts was an acoustic Cale performance with Chris Spedding and his voice was strong and clear - one of the best shows I've ever seen. My absolute, honest-to-god favourite album of all time is Cale's Paris 1919 - I think he handles the symphonic ballads on that lp quite nicely. Germanic chic works for me generally - especially if it includes icy blondes with a pronounced mean streak. perhaps I've said too much...
