Rob Thomas, Smooth?

I saw his new video last night and it was decent and catchy. Has he spilt from his band? Do you think he'll be sucessful as a solo artist? I'm not a fan of Matchbox 20 but he has an interesting voice and he's a cutie! I thought the song kind of sounded like something Enrique would sing. Has anyone else heard it? Any thoughts or opinions?

Big, big hit by Rob Thomas. Main reason I dig it though is cuz my boy Santana is playing on it. That was a crucial reason it was a hit, I feel. Plus, it brought Santana to a younger generation, that perhaps weren't hip to Carlos before.

Exactly! I'm not a huge fan of Rob Thomas, but I do like some of his work. I thought he did a great job with the Supernatural stuff. Many people didn't know much about Carlos except that he was the dude that did Black Magic Woman. Many more now know about the great Santana thanks to people like Rob, Wycelf, Lauryn etc....

Oh no, I do like "smooth", it's very catchy but I generally don't like matchbox 20. They're just so blah to me. Very unrock n' roll in my opinion but I do like his new single just from hearing it once. Maybe his solo stuff will be better.

I think he/she is refering to Rob Thomas "Lonely No More"

yes I really like the song but "Lonley No More" and "Smooth" are quite a change from Matchbox 20.. I like Rob in both styles.. It's nice to see him try a limb with a solo project, but I'm more favorable to Matchbox 20 and hope this is sideproject is just taht and that in the future we can hear more songs from MATCHBOX 20

I'm not a big fan, though he obviously has some talent.

Supernova is pretty much a sellout album for Santana, but it's good pop & he deserved it after all these years.

I never heard the connection between Prince & Santana until I heard Smooth, though. Theres a part with the horns towards the end that could easily be Prince.

I like that the song was supposed to be sung by George Michael (which would've been good, too) but that Santana heard the demo and decided Rob should do it himself. Santana seems very decent after all these years.
