Brian Eno

I am just getting into some of Brian Eno's early albums such as 'Here Come the Warm Jets' and 'Another Green World'. The latter is a lovely album. I also have 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts', with David Byrne. I got into Eno mainly through his work with David Bowie and U2.

Any fans of Eno's work around here - favourate/ recomended albums, that sort of thing?

What other Eno-influenced/ or interesting 'ambient' artists are there? Over to you.

I haven´t heard much of his vocal work and I didn´t like the few pieces that I have heard. I prefer his ambient stuff and my favorite is Ambient4/On Land.
The Apollo soundtrack and his collaborations with Harold Budd are very good too.
If you like these, you will also like David Sylvians Ambient work with Holger Czukay and the albums Alchemy-An index of possibilities and Ember Glance.

Brian Eno - worship

The man is an absolute genius - even if just for his production work.

I haven't got all his albums but, apart from 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' - which you've already got - I'd definitely recommend 'Nerve Net' (1993?). It's his 'techno' album.

I'd also suggest his book 'A Year With Swollen Appendices' - it's fascinating.

i love eno! love him, love him, love him! lol taking tiger mountain is another good one but you may have heard/purchased that already. if you can find them, look for some of his ambient series, like music for films and music for airports.

Recommended Eno:

Vocal:

Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy
Before and After Science
Wrong Way Up (with John Cale)
1. Outside (David Bowie) - if you don't have it

Ambient:

Music For Airports
Music for Films
More Music For Films
Discreet Music
Thursday Afternoon
Ambient 4: On Land

I also recommend you buy the first two Roxy Music albums.

All great. Happy listening.

Nerve Net is a solid album. I was in a record store browsing when I first heard this and out of nowwhere Fripp unleashes one of the most awesome solos I've ever heard in my life, I thought the owner was going to kick me out for drooling over the cds. drool lol Be aware this isn't a ambient album!

Here are some others I dig by Eno.

Hell yeah, I'm a big fan of Eno. My favorite of his is definately "Here Comes The Warm Jets".

Wrong Way Up (with John Cale)

Good call - there's some brilliant material on that record. As an aside, John Cale's Paris 1919 is probably my favourite record of all time.

Anyway, I love the first four Eno pop albums. The only one I have any reservations about is Another Green World. It's fine, but I just find it slightly less compelling than the other records.

As for the ambient albums: Airports is genius, of course, and On Land is almost as good (I think it is, anyway, for whatever that's worth) - but for a casual listener, they're kind of a case of "if you've heard one, you've heard them all."

John’s voice is an acquired taste. I like John's music, but I find his voice hard to groove with, unlike Lou whose voice is easy to groove with.

I love Lou, but John's the more talented one. Guy's a genius. His voice is like that of a punk Roy Orbison. If you like Lou's "Take no Prisoners" album, you'll love John's "Sabotage", which really does take no prisoners. Dig it!
